Signings That Were Never Right

Have been watching some old games in the off season and have come across a few signings id forgotten about that still just never felt right.

Fatty at the Roosters
Mark Geyer at the Tigers
Tim Brasher at Souths
Phil Blake at the Dragons, and Warriors, and Raiders.

What other signing just never looked right?
I agree with you about Geyer at the Tigers (during the Jones years) but I remember one game (sadly only one game) where he completely tore teh opposition to bits single-handedly. The week before Geyer was dropped from the (I think) City team by (from memory) Gus and they had a big ugly spat in public over it. That next week, at Leichhardt we finally got Crazy Geyer playing in black and gold and it was a beautiful sight that we sadly never saw again.

There’s probably a very disturbing reason why he wanted that Brian Smith bloke. Praying he gets convicted for the creep he is.

I agree with you, but Brian Smith was an incredibly talented footballer. IMO he had a passing and kicking game equal to Ricky Stuart but was pretty allergic to contact.

I actually think that in a better team/squad Brian Smith could have been a very good RL player but was ironically impeded by Jones poor coaching in a squad going backwards fast.

Well, he wasn't picked for his playing ability as Gary Freeman had every skill in the book all over him except a big boot that Smith had.
Brian Smith had a much better passing game as well but Freeman the better all round player and certainly tougher.

SJ at the Sharks as has been mentioned
Clinton Toopi at the Titans

3 for us (as in playing for us)
Price, Wiki and Tate at the Warriors. They all seem to bleed Dogs, Raiders and Broncos respectively - That said, I loved having all 3 at the Warriors!

I dont even remember this happening

He had an all time year in 2003, then was pretty ordinary for the rest of his career.

Willie Mason at every club except the bulldogs.

I also felt like Nate Myles never really wanted to be a rooster, and it showed. He basically just used his time with us to train for origin each year

Denan Kemp at the Warriors. Signed off the back of a try-scoring blitz for the Broncos, we then moved him to the right wing, and never passed him the ball. Caught a cold as we stuck firm to the 'kick to Manu' approach

Then was released back to Brisbane for a piddly 4 games over 3 seasons, then to the Drags where he couldn't get on the field, either.
