If RL wants to get into the Commonwealth games then it needs an Asian nation playing the game to get the 6 region spread (ie Americas/Canada,Carribean/Jamaica,Africa/Sth Africa,Oceania/Aust and Europe/England )before it will gain acceptance. So yes Singapore could just become a priority in the next few years.

I saw this stadium for the RU World Club 10's championships just recently and great looking stadium but it was very empty for this tournament. By the looks there was lucky to be a thousand in attendance so not sure if the public would be interested.

Singapore is shit. The model of how the run the country is f**ked. Shopping is gay.

Gee there's some imbeciles on this forum.

There is the planning of a 4 team competition being setup in Singapore so there is hope yet. Not sure though on the progress.

There is a bid for a Super Rugby franchise based in Singapore for the next expansion of that competition. If it happens, it might mean that there will be enhanced community interest in the rugby codes generally, we do see players in the newer markets playing both codes.

The South African Rugby Union favours Singapore, mainly because it is a good transit point for travelling teams. That's about the only factor in favour of it, from what I can see.

Japan would surely be a better bet, for rugby league in Asia. At least there are some potential recruits there already.

As a final comment, very few sports are developed from the top down, parachuted into a grateful waiting population. The grass roots is where the start has to be made. It's a long, slow, process. Who has the patience, I wonder?

Hope they have factored in the 30+ degree heat and humidity - and this is at night.

I lived in Singapore for a couple of years - really dont rate the place when it comes to watching living sport. The weather is just too hot for both the spectators and players.

Believe it or not, the new stadium is climate controlled. I think we can assume that the government is willing and able to throw huge amounts of money towards getting some serious sport played there.
