Sio Siua Taukeiaho on the Warriors

Saw this and figured a lot of you probably don't go on the Sportal website

Roosters powerhouse Sio Siua Taukeiaho has emerged as one of the most destructive forwards in the NRL but saved his heaviest hit of the season for former club the Warriors.
Two months after being told he wasn’t wanted the Auckland-born 23 year old made his NRL debut in 2013 at the Warriors, it was disappointing news at the time but after moving to Bondi he’s joined Sam Tomkins in questioning the clubs culture and professionalism.
“The Warriors is just all over the place.” Taukeiaho said.
“I didn’t learn much at the Warriors but I’m learning alot here from the coaching staff, Trent Robbinson and the players here as well.”
Taukeiaho has played every game for the premiership favourites this season in what is arguably the most feared forward pack in the NRL.
Roosters coach Trent Robinson has given Taukeiaho the ultimate compliment, labelling him his side’s replacement for Sonny Bill Williams, but the Kiwi firebrand says the club should take all the credit.
“The professionalism here is way different to back at home with the Warriors.”
“All the preparation they do and just how they prepare themselves for every game. That’s the difference.”
Taukeiaho has quickly adapted to the professional culture at the Roosters and has also taken it upon himself to lead the star-studded pack with fellow Kiwi Jared Waerea-Hargreaves out for the remainder of the season with injury.
“Losing Jared who is one of our top players, the one that leads our forward pack is a big loss for us.” Taukeiaho said.
“It’s an opportunity for me, Napa and Sam Moa to stand up and lead the team.” Taukeiaho said.
It’s been a remarkable turnaround for Taukeiaho on and off the football field, not so long ago his parents threatened to send him to Tonga in a drastic attempt to save him from mixing with the wrong crowd on the tough streets of Auckland.
Taukeiaho is now just five weeks away from achieving every players dream by winning an NRL premiership and is also considered a strong chance to become the first New Zealander to be crowned Rookie of the Year.

IMO this is the biggest issue at the club, throw in Passi, Ah Mau etc. they look like different players at other clubs more hungry for success.

It won't be long before other clubs start raiding our players knowing that they can potentially find a diamond in the rough as the warriors just dont know how to get the best out of these guys.

I don't think the Warriors are completely to blame in Taukeiaho's case. The article also says his parents wanted to send him to Tonga, so there were outside forces distracting him.

Suaia Matagi would be the bigger disappointment for me. He looked so disinterested earlier in the year and now he's potentially lined up to come out with a Premiership. Good on him if he does, but gee that'd hurt.

Big test is Sione Lousi - can someone make him look good?

How does the club tell, you let alone enforce who you can hang out with and what friends you can have?
It's nearly an impossible situation for the club to be in, and by cutting them loose these guys realise it's not all guaranteed get removed from their comfort zone, do not have their old distractions and have to pull finger or face another cut.

I think all we can do as a club is set rules and standards, if they are broken or not achieved move them on.
11 are going this year.

This is what happens when you give jobs to all the boys.

I have always said to pretty much everyone's annoyance that I always felt that Watson bought the Warriors as a PR exercise. He faced a nightmare being a main player with Hanover Finance, his name was wrecked and people hated his guts for losing their life savings. Watson got smart, he bought the peoples team, they quickly found success under Anderson and Watson rebounded back into the public light with his free ticket give outs.

It served its purpose, now its just a side distraction. Watson couldn't truly give 2 shits about the warriors and it shows, he just hires names and hopes they can fix it.

Here is an absolute fact - Year one under Doyle has left us worse off than when he took over. How about that!

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, I doubt Hanover had much or anything to do with why Watson bought the Warriors - he bought the club about ten years before Hanover collapsed. Getting himself bigger public profile probably did come into it, though.

It'll probably be discarded or dismissed, but articles like this and anything that paints a picture of the inner workings at the club at any point of time, regardless of how debatable the content is, should be archived by the Warriors.

Exactly.

Obviously, it would be great if we could be a club which could turn around wayward talents from Auckland and maximise their potential?but we aren't. It might be as simple as them getting away (geographically) from the elements that are distracting them from football.

To be fair the warriors are not the only team that release juniors who go on to play better at other clubs.

Having said that I heard through a friend of friend that elijah taylor commented that at the warriors there is a real strong family culture...but is not so hard nosed...where at the panthers team mates were not so close and it was more of turn up and do your job and play hard environment.

No. He's slow, he's not strong, not a particularly good ball player, not anything. No one could get him up to speed.

Ika, I absolutely can see someone getting better out of him. Errors in his game and quite probably lazy/shit in our environment, but big/hits hard etc like SST.

Our environment will get better under a competent CEO (check) and a strong coach (not check). These guys can piss on about how this season is so much different than 2012 but that's horse shit when so obviously we aren't aiming up, we aren't showing a lick of pride, guys like Gubb do stupid shit, lots of guys leaving have checked out etc.

Warriors fans should, because he isn't the 1st young player that has improved after getting out of the Warriors

We could find an equally long list of players who looked the goods at the Warriors and then went on to have underwhelming careers at other clubs

I've got to say, this comment frustrates me a bit. To me, thats a misconception. SST was an absolute gun coming through the ranks. Matulino, Fai, SST, Packer, they were the top forwards to come out of the Warriors NYC system. The stats he is pulling now he was pulling each and every week with ease. Yes, a lower grade, but to suggest he wasn't developing is plain wrong.

IMO, Matthew Elliott made a poor call to release him early. And then a few weeks later give him his debut, where he performed strongly in a badly beaten team he came off the bench to get a try assist. I said it at the time, this will go down as the worst part of the Elliott legacy, SST being allowed to go.
