Henry is a culture change specialist, he banned alcohol from the All Blacks when it was entrenched and forever changed NZ rugby for the better.

Sure its PR for the Warriors but its also good news.

Horrifying... I agree with the Rusty Lion.

Don't need someone in this sort of role to focus on skills or tactical advice, it's all about the wider setup and the culture around a side. And Henry very much has the runs on the board in that regard.

the only issue I have with it is the timing really makes them look reactionary rather than proactive...

If your being blunt it makes it look like a publicity stunt more than anything...

Because if you were truly wanting to make a change to the culture of the club you would have brought him in at the start of preseason... Not midway through the season.

I don't know what Ted will be able to help with at the moment.... But he has always had a very good knack of getting the best out of polynesian players... and I think that goes back to his teaching days at Kelston.

My memories of Graham Henry: being called into his office (when he was principal at Kelston Boys) for not shaving every bloody week. I was a very slow learner

I will say he was always very passionate about sport and pretended that education was important too

He had no interest in league back then. But he could still be a great mentor (in terms of man-management) ;-)

Frankly, I think it's just what that outfit needs....someone who won't stand for bullshit. Someone that can develop a winning culture, and I don't mean in the technical sense. Bloody good decision I think. I do wonder how much Sir Butch had to do with this.

Good move and needed.
Culture has been an issue from day one and the only time the Warriors had a good bit of stability was when John Hart was there. I think its underestimated the huge loss he was when they sacked Cleary.

Hopefully, the Stupid 6 are considering changing their ways and arent just doing and saying what they need to do to get under the radar before they return to their old ways. Changing a persons values is the hardest thing to do. A weeks "detention" isnt going to do it. Henry the headmaster will spot phonies a mile away.

Next few weeks will be very interesting.

I don't know what's funnier, JJ's interesting stance that Sir Henry isn't much of a coach or how Charming Lion is matey mates with Sir G.

Btw Lion, there's a lot of incoming scoop lately which you missed, I thought you were the hot sauce around here?

I didn't mean he was a poor coach - just there are some alarming failures along the way (someone above pointed out the highlights - that's rather selective) - Wales was a dismal failure, the Lions too, his involvement with the Blues, the first World Cup...

Clearly a good coach, very overrated imo though - each to their own

It seems reactive, as someone noted - he might be the best person available, but his mentoring role at the Blues was spectacular

Overrated, Yep I actually agree

But still plenty of pedigree and experience, we need that

And I actually like the persistence with McFad, the "sack the coach" syndrome hasn't worked, I want to see him try to fix the rout cause which is the players themselves.

They should have chased Mickey Arthur - Konnie could have written 1,000 words on why he's a naughty boy...

Actually, better to just give him some crayons to eat

Wasn't Ted co coaching the Blues with JK ?

Didn't work there..

Pretty good point, that. And that's in Ted's sport, where he had more mana than he does in league. A lot of parallels, McFadden being a good guy but really hasn't had any results on the board to suggest he can coach, ala JK.

I knew this topic would polarise, and I'm really not sure what my opinion is given I won't be able to see what his day-to-day influence is. It does strike as a PR exercise, however - especially seeing there was an existing relationship with McFadden and Henry.

Can you change a culture in a month, or less than a season? Doubt it. Will these players have full respect for a guy from another sport when he shoots in, shoots out basically? John Hart effected change by being there every day.

I can't see that this will make much difference at all. Certainly it won't help McFadden be technically/strategically better, and that to me is one of his major deficiencies.
