I'm actually surprised that SuperLeague didn't challenge soccer for the name of SuperLeague, given we've had it since 1995. A professional sports competition using the same name as another professional sports competition of another sport in the same continent. Nobody in the RFL said anything?

when the RFL have used Wembley, Old Trafford and Elland Road for years? In any case netball in the UK also use SL, and that's on Sky Sports as well. Nobody can think of a good name to replace RL, so we're stuck with rugby league for a few more years at least, well actually we'll see what happens after this court case in the UK re. concussion.

Its obviously not possible to, before RL adopted it there was already a national ice hockey comp called superleague in UK.

Ice Hockey
RL
Womens Soccer
Mens soccer
Netball

have all used Superleague, or intended to in mens European soccer comp case.
I guess the law considers it like using premiership or championship which also cant be trademarked on their own.
