Sleeve Sponsor PokerStars shut down

No surprise here. This was always going to happen given the dodgy ways these companies were getting around the ludicrous anti-gambling laws in the US.

Nevertheless, Pokerstars continues to operate in Europe and the free site, pokerstars.net (our sponsor) is currently unaffected.

Of course Pokerstars will take a huge financial hit but as they haven't been accused of breaking any laws in Australia (or Europe) then I can see no reason why they shouldn't continue as the sleeve sponsor (at least until the SMH decides to wage a pseudo-moralistic campaign against us, or Pokerstars just runs out of money).

EXCLUSIVE: Sharks sponsorship safe

CRONULLA Sharks’ sponsorship with an online poker company is not in jeopardy despite the FBI shutting down a US-affiliate website on Friday.
The PokerStars.com domain name has been seized by the FBI but the Australian-run website Pokerstars.net which is the Sharks’ sleeve sponsor is operational.
Sharks chairman Damian Irvine has put to rest fears the club’s sponsorship was in doubt.
Irvine said he spoke with the Australian-based company on Friday and was assurd there were no issues with the Australian sector of the website.
‘‘They are different companies,’’ Irvine said. ‘‘It’s got nothing to do with the companies but individuals in the US.’’
The Sharks linked with the online poker company midway through last year.
Irvine said that sponsorship payments were up to date.
‘‘It obviously does make your heart flutter a little bit,’’ Irvine said. ‘‘But there is no issue with the sponsorship at all.’’

Its not a bad sponsorship, and they are very good payers.
Their logo maybe on a different part of the jersey next year.

Ps and ftp were making 4megas a day. Anticipated will lose 40% of business during this. Should be able to find 200k for your sponsorship.

I reckon the us govt will launch an approved site before the year is out. Suing for 3-4 bil in unpaid taxes, an approved site would make them heaps of money. Plus all the fish would know its legal and can get winnings, so i reckon numbers would double.
