Sloan

The Sloan pile on is pretty insane , poor in defence but some electric moments in attack … has a bigger highlight reel than a lot of name brand players. I think seeing him put in over the off season has seen flanno move on an extension
Yep. Flanno knows that Sloan is still "new" and needs to be hardened up. Sloan has a gift and like many indigenous athletes with good training techniques applied and sensible man management will be much improved as he gets older and wiser. Once he becomes a better defender and takes all the hard knocks that comes with effective tackling and charging into opposition defenders in attack, he will be an asset to the club.

The most positive thing for Sloan is that he finally has an NRL quality coach. No doubt he had some bad defensive moments in 2023 but I've always been a firm believer that he should never have been in the position to be saving so many tries when the rest of the team was so woeful in defence.
So much upside to the kid and a lot of keyboard warriors tend to forget he was in SG Ball before COVID and never got the apprenticeship in the lower grades that most other players of his age got.
Anyway this is definitely a make or break year for him. I hope he comes good.

I say, let Sloan ply his trade on the left wing and earn his number 1 jumper.

I've been waiting for this.

Sloan will not be able to become a better fullback if he plays on the wing. Brett Morris was a specialist winger, its a given, but he played fullback under Mary plenty of times, same as Nightingale but he and Morris specialised on the wing. Sloan can only improve if he is given plenty of time under Flanno. Sloan knows what he needs to do to be much better - best let him do his thing and we wait to see how he goes this year. Hook virtually "killed" him with his poor management telling him - "you played shit" and left Sloan to lose confidence and spend time in Ressies without doing what Flanno is now doing for him.

Maybe.

All Sloan needs to do is put his body on the line, all game and every game.

Kid has talent. Its up to him.

Waiting to see how Sloan goes as our NRL fullback is no change to the policy of last season. He needs to earn his spot by playing well on the wing as many other good fullbacks do in the early years of their NRL career.

On the left-wing Sloan will need to catch the high ball, bring it back at pace, take hitups from inside his 20 on early tackles, and defend his wing. Do that well and you have the grounding of fullback play. All that is then needed to learn is field position and the skill of directing your backline in defense.

No its not. That is Price/Hook bullshit

Run hard, tackle hard was Price.

Go back to Reggie's and work on things. Don't worry about what, just work on your game was Hook

The kid needs COACHING. How to put his body on the line. When to stay in, how to use his footwork so he doesn't get beaten like in the Gong.

No argument re coaching.

But the kid missed Flannos pre pre training regiment, due to him wanting to play with his mates.

Im going off last years return carries and online defence. If he can improve those areas, I will be his biggest fan.

But, the majority of his returns and defensive efforts last year would have had the NRLW teams licking there lips.

He has been fast tracked into NRL, I get that. All I want to see is some mongrel and am hoping like hell that Flanno can.

Just like Stuart does with Kriss. Bit of tough love is needed.

Mate with all respect are you for real? He didn't injure himself playing backyard footy at Christmas. He played the Koori Knockout, which other Indig players with much more experience and star power play.
Culture is a big part of who he is and the KK is a huge thing for the indig community.
It's a tough comp. He got injured. He trained through the Christmas break to try and make up his lost ground.
He was publicly challenged by Flanno that Lomax would be training at 1 and was probably looking at playing there. He answered the challenge (so far)
He's put on size. He's impressed Flanno enough that he's in talks to get an extension.
What the f**k else do you want the poor kid at 21 to do?

He is not poor and asking for more.

Before he has deserved it.

Are you for real.

OK you're either deliberately misreading what I'm saying or being obtuse.

Poor not as in money. I'd never say a professional league player was poor.

Where is it stated HE is the one asking for more? He's at the end of his current contract. Since he last signed with us he has played more first grade games and repped PMs 13, so therefore would be getting an upgrade.

Where is this "before he deserves" it shit coming from?

This kid needs to be re-signed ASAP. He is by no means a top 8 fullback in the comp currently. However, he is improving with every game. Defensively his positioning is getting better, he’s not as scared of the collision, breaking tackles on kick returns. If he keeps up his current trajectory, he could become a top 5 fullback. We need to lock him up before others start sniffing, nothing too hectic just a 2 year extension so he has flannos tenure to show his improvement
