We needs forwards more than anything-Some grunt upfront. With Hayne or primary playmaker a good hooker and second rower would be more important.

Footy is a business now, Pete. Fortunate or unfortunate as it may be, it's true.

And sadly, our junior halves have not been able to step up, and when they have, they've left or fallen out of form (the Witts, Smith, Marsh, Hodkinson, Maloney, etc.).

I think we need to look at it in terms of pros and cons:

CONS

- He'd be massively, massively expensive, and, much like what's going on with Poore at the moment, if he didn't perform well he'd be crucified.

- Sometimes his personality on the field can be grating; he's not been unknown to yell at teammates for missing tackles or dropping balls.

- He hasn't actually achieved much more than our current halves in terms of club football.

- He can be hot and cold.

PROS

+ He is CLASS (on the field, in terms of his skills).

+ He is a marquee player that may make it easier and more attractive to attract other big name players to the club in the future should we need them.

+ He's experienced - maybe not in terms of NRL Finals, but he's been winning with Australia and Queensland forever.

+ He's a competitor - chasing kicks, making tackles, never saying 'die'...

I prefer Jeff Robson...;-)

Buying players...does that really mean anything? Cut the Salary cap back to $2m and get Clubs to produce their own...
Maybe then the NRL competition would become more than merely a series of exhibition matches and bring passion back into supporting YOUR team..
With that logic someone from Hay would never be able to play NRL as Hay don't have a team in the NRL. Producing your own is archaic nonsense.

Make it happen Ossie, lets face it we are a ship ATM with no rudder. JT is the best 7 in the world and him and Hayne together would be magic. If it takes losing some underperforming juniors to do it so be it. Morts couldn't get a better halves partner to teach him the ropes. I would be all for it.

I'm fascinated with this hatred for Thurston.
Why is he a grub?

My idea..."That'd be good. Maybe we'd be able to keep the talent in the bush, and build the code up to how it used to be. "

Your idea - "Clubs should stop funding Junior programs, and just buy from the shelf"

We'll be The Cheque Book Champions...Yipeeeeeeeee.

Our resources in the forwards was one area that we did improve on from the 2009 squad. We cut dead-weight and recruited a SOO frontrower and a very well-regarded backrower/prop in Shackleton.

Poore has been slow to hit form this year and we all know what sadly happened to Shack.

That's left us with a little less depth as a result, although I don't see how calling up Horo has been any worse than calling up Hauraki. It's been the exact opposition IMO.

The big loss was Kingston. We tried to keep him, but couldn't. It's a shame and we're really missing him.

Losing Cayless to retirement and, for argument's sake, Mateo, K Keating and at least one back, means we have a bit of coin to play with. We still need at least two forwards to replace Cayless and Mateo, though ... even if bargain basement guys. The cost of those guys needs to be accounted for too.

Parra will put in a very competitive offer for JT. It would seem to good to be true if we signed him. I would pay just to go and watch the JT and Hayne combination.

It must be taken into account though how many back ended contracts we have in place.
Maybe not as much coin as what we think.

I'll pay to see the Eels play regardless. That would just be a bonus.

Pete still has the chook raffle mentality. Leave him be, he is just old. :D
