Past it?

Then tell me how they managed to experience their second mass wave of popularity? OK, so today's Simple Plan and Good Charlotte fan is also a Living End fan and as much as I hate the little kids it's good for the band and their sales. TLE had a massive popularity surge in 97-99 with their EPs and self titled album. Roll On wasn't as well accepted by the music buying public but is just as good, if not better, musically than it's predecessor. Modern ARTillery was lukewarm but State Of Emergency is really the watershed album.

I heard a rumour that TLE are working on learning a THIRD CHORD!

That's right, big news on the music scene.

I thought they were superb. Name a better song to do than I dont wanna be the one ?

Perfect ... Daniel Johns exceeded all my expectations of him ... the kid is bloody talented.

The funny thing is, if i was going to cover an Oils song, Silverchair picked THE PERFECT ONE to do :)

I actually think this was the TRUE HIGHLIGHT of the whole night. Cant wait till it gets uploaded onto Youtube :)
It's up now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9HoSCFI1xw
I have never heard of that song...

Yawn...the tired old "they sold lots of records" arguement. They have a loyal fanbase who has liked all of their albums - thats great. The problem is that they keep making the same album!

I love how precious TLE get about any hint of criticism of the band. TLE have tried to take on the States before and it's safe to say they'll never be as big as the bands they'll support over there.

They'll have a sound career recording the same album in years to come - the sad thing is their fans wont get bored of that album time and time again...

How anyone can think the albums sound the same is beyond me. Tone deaf probably.

Why is it people whinge about acts such as pop stars and Idol dominating OZ music.Yet when a band come along that do actually play their own instruments and write their own songs .
The same people whinge about that too???

So what if WM and Jet wear their influences on their sleeves.
Beats the sh*t out of a lot of other stuff out there.

It's not the fact that Wolfmother and Jet are getting the accolades - I'd much rather it be them than some of the sh*t that's out there like Rogue Traders, Veronicas, Idol etc.

What gets me is when these bands are overhyped to the max when there are vastly more talented acts, such as the Casanovas and Little Birdy, that are completely ignored. The Casanovas have more talent in the drummer's little finger than Wolfmother have in their entire bodies, yet the mainstream media ignore them. Same for Little Birdy and many other out there.

That is what truly sickens me.

No nominations for The Living End's "State Of Emergency" as best album.

Get f**ked ARIA. It debuted at number one yet can't get a nod.

The ARIA awards are a sad pathetic joke.

The only highlight was Myf Warhurst.

As I said in another thread, State of Emergency sounds like the boys took all the worst B-Sides from Modern Artillery and slapped them on an album. They have gone out and recorded "Modern Artillery-The Crappy Version." It's a very poor effort from a very good band. Hopefully they improve next time around, or I sure as heck won't be wasting money on them...

But if those Triple J type bands do make it to the ARIAS and other radio stations etc., wouldn't their fans all say they have sold out?

Yes, I am part of that loyal fan base. However, you said they are past it. I'm saying they are having a resurgence....
As for they make the same album all the time...try listening a little more closely.

I listen...I hear the same thing...their music hasn't progressed any at all. Same old Stray Cats-wannabe's they have always been.

It's hardly a resurgance - they are treading water if anything.

Wolfmother's music is really good, but they look like the biggest Nerds. It was embarrasing watching them supposedly hanging out with the guys from Jackass.

I wouldn't know. I'd hardly call them "Triple J type bands"... some of them have been successful on commercial stations also (eg, Little Birdy), while others such as the Casanovas receive no airplay on triple J.

Triple J used to be an advocate of upcoming Australian music, now they're almost as bad as commercial radio. Besides, having a song picked up by commercial radio cannot be seen as selling out. I'm afraid you're trying to oversimplify to show your disdain at such types and have just ended up looking like a dickhead.

Um

you'd probably want to check out the unearthed web-site .
http://www.triplejunearthed.com/

They are the only big radio station that gives a fug about up and coming Aussie music.

In fact they are doing more for unsigned Aussies bands than anyone ever before.

lol it was just a question. An example of what I was talking about is Eskimo Joe. They are now all over the teeny bopper radio stations and I could imagine many of their former Triple J fans ignoring them now as they considered them to have 'sold out'.

They've "sold out" until they start playing "sweater" again!!

I don't think Eskimo Joe has necessarily sold out - commercial radio has come along to like their style of music these days and Triple J - while they still play them a bit - has to change what they play a little to differentiate their playlist (after all - if they didn't they would be accused of selling out themselves).

I'm quite bored of their music though - they had an opportunity to continue evolving but they have become quite stagnant...

I've always hated half of JJJ's play list, sometimes more, simply because of the fact that they play such a diverse range of tunes. I don't think anyone could really really like all of a playlist from JJJ like people can enjoy everything on Nova/MMM etc.

Rock, metal, punk, dance, techno, trance, folk, blues, reggae, roots, rockabilly, world, jazz, hip-hop, R'n'B... it's all there.

I listen to the J's because they play SOME things that I'm a fan of, but even moreso because I like their message and their role in the Oz music industry, and regardless of what styles they are playing - that always remains the same.
