Watched this evenings game Storm vs West Tigers and made my focus primarily on Smith, Cronk & Slater. It appeared Smith did not look well, maybe he had a cold or a tummy bug or whatever but regardless of whatever he was feeling and while under the extreme pump of a brilliant West Tigers forward pack offensive for 65 minutes he still took control of the game and with Cronk and Slater in cahoots they engineered a brilliant series of attacking moves to blow the West Tigers off the park.
These three players should and will all become immortals if they keep this standard up for another season or two. They do not know what it means to give up and this leadership rubs off on all other Storm players. Stuart, Clyde and Daley were another three but to my way of thinking they have not reached the heights Smith, Cronk and Slater have since ascended to immortal status.
No doubt Bellamy is a good coach but gees, the way average NRL Storm players perform like champions around Smith, Cronk & Slater week in and week out just amazes me. Our 81 to 86 squad had a great bunch of players throughout the squad/s, same with the Raiders during their great era and same with the Bulldogs, Broncos, SeaEagles. But the Storm led Smith, Cronk & Slater is something else again. We are witnessing some of the BEST Rugby League players of ALL TIME.
I was amazed to find myself jumping up and down with excitement each time Storm struck back and finally got over the top of a brilliant & powerful Tigers performance this evening. Was just caught up in the enthralling excitement witnessing the brilliance of Smith, Cronk and Slater executing a fantastic victory.
You all know I'm a chronic die-hard Eels supporter from way back, someone who was seriously pissed off with the behind the scenes Storm salary cap shenanigans but tonight it was Rugby League played by superstars that stole my heart for 80 minutes. I was witnessing absolute greatness this evening and am so glad that I can go to my grave knowing I've not only witnessed many superstars play this game since the early 60's but also three of the very very best of ALL TIME. Rugby League is the greatest game of all. Thank you Smith, Cronk & Slater.
And by the way, can you please take a pay cut and join our Eels club for a few years starting next year. We could do with your help am sure Roy Spags can supply endless brown paper bags flowing down from Rugby League heaven for many years to come.
