Sterling and Kenny, et al, were only able to develop so well because they had so many quality players around them that the club were able to keep together.
Cheats.
It's only cheating if you don't abide by the same rules as everyone else.
Hence Melbourne are cheats in assembling their teams, and the Eels (and other great 80s teams) are not. Let's not forget Brett Kenny knocked back a big offer from the Tigers to stay at Parra
"Cheats And All, Help From Refs & Officials And All" in the first half vs Soufs, Cronk, Slater and Smith are again performing as world-class superstars. For three seasons now (early in the third year), Storm are operating within the cap, are no longer cheating. When is enough enough.... dumping shit on Slater, Cronk and Smith? If our 81 to 86 Eels squad were forced to comply to the cap Storm are forced to adhere to these days, our club would only be able to keep a few of our great players possibly only Sterling, Kenny & Price. Do you think we could have one 4 premierships in 6 years and play in 5 GF and be knocked out in a semi final during those years?????
You do realize Casper, even under your ridiculous argument/example, every other team in the league would also have been obligated to abide by the same rules, right?
For example the Bulldogs would never have been able to amass all those quality players that they did from all those different clubs, to have the team they did in the first place, get it?
But then again, they probably would have rorted the cap, as history shows us they have in the past, while we would have been also rans, and people like you would be praising them as the best team ever, while maybe Parra would be like the Sharkies, still chasing our maiden premiership, that's if we still managed to be around that is.
But hey not all is lost Casp, you would have had all those wonderful memories of the most AWESOME team ever assembled, that money could buy of couse, that ever played the game, on Gods green earth...wow!!! Hooray for you Casper!!!
I'm with Casper. All the outcomes are pre determined. Freemasons set up the 2009 GF for personal gain.
Sarcasm detector not working?

I realized it after I posted - but couldn't be bothered editing, I assumed someone would correct me!!
Club loyalty appears to be very strong at the Storm too. Maybe that is why we are seeing the type of success our Eels club experienced 76 to 86, particularly 81 to 86. There are many many ways to cheat the cap, some of them impossible to do anything about, particularly years later after a superstars retirement from the game. Since end of season 2010, is it wrong if Smith, Cronk, Slater (& Bellamy) want to stay together and are willing to sacrifice/give-up some of their financial rewards which impacts the cap so they can stick together? When does the "cheat" tag end and mateship bonds begin? Negotiations occur all along the way of a players career and it's great to see how a tight group of players will sometimes stick it out to the very end regardless of whatever hurdles and sacrifices that came along their individual pathways.
That is always a safe assumption
In that case Schubert would be applying the same estimated value calculations he applied to Parra when we tried to sign people, amirite?
Or does this only apply to people who are changing teams (Absolute bs if so)?
