He is a good coach - he does have some strong points however in exactly the same way that any player who puts on the number seven jersey is compared to Peter Sterling, any coach who is going to be in charge of the Eels will forever have Big Jack's shoes to fill until they win at least a premiership in the hearts of those who have been through those years when Jack was in charge - ala Misty Bee. I know many others have however we were probably all a bit younger than Misty (if I rememeber rightly you drove to the 86 GF MB??)
John Monie had to live in Gibson's shadow once he was in charge and did so until we won in 1986. Many will argue that Cronin and Hilditch didn't have the cattle however the fans still hungered for that success started by Jack.
Parramatta was blessed with success during that era and just before - having been involved in the finals from 1976 - 1986.
1987 until 1997 were lean years and the success we have had since Smith has taken over has delivered everything apart from the premiership.
If Smith doesn't win a premiership during his remaining time whoever takes over will be judged on whether they can deliver it as well.
