Smith should stay on at Eels: Hindmarsh

Hindmarsh is our best player. His opinion should be respected.

However, I get the feeling that our senior players are somewhat in the comfort zone and are a little apprehensive about change. By advocating JT they are further reinforcing this attitude as the appointment of Taylor would be a somewhat minimalistic change.

The players need to understand that everything ends and nothing lasts forever. I am confident that our players are professional enough to accept this and support Hagan should he arrive.

I will bet pounds to peanuts Hindy doesnt leave.

yep! what people don't realise is that there's more incentives to our club than a great head coach, the staff, facilities, set up and development systems make it a very attractive option and the fact that it's all in the one spot is also a benefit.

The players don't have to put up with a gym that resembles a tin shead at Cronulla, they don't have to search for kneedles at Redfern prior to training, they don't have a part time Doctor to deal with as they do in Newcastle and they don't have to frequently jump from suburb to suburb to train as they do with Wests and Manly.

Let's put head coach aside for a moment, this club is perfect for any footballer [or boxer , post: -) "]

who knows, maybe they'll still offer Brian another role, the problem is will Brian take a pay cut to accept that role? I can't help feeling that the root of the problem is that Fitzy wants a coach that doesn't cost as much to the club as the current one.

Fitzy was universally bagged for giving him a 5 year deal in their last contract negotiations.....imagine the flak if he had of re-signed Smith. I think Fitzy did a risk analysis of what affect it would have on his 'own' career and not what was best for the team / club. At least he and Hadley can be friends again...??

You don't think Smitty would establish similar set ups at a new club. If he was to seek employment elsewhere in the NRL & we don't know what is happenig yet so I'm talking hypothetically. He wouldn't sign to coach for a club unless they offered him the same resources to build similar foundations.

He's a ground up coach & If he was to go, anyone who wanted to follow him would not miss out. He would make sure the new club operated like ours because that's his strength.

I agree that this club is perfect for any footballer. As it is! Who's to say another coach will be able to manage the resources as successfully & who's to say they don't have changes in mind that threaten those foundations ala Chris Anderson's succession of John Lang?

LIke i said the players loyalties would be split at the moment. As I see it a JT appointment would be the only thing to make me as confident as you guys in regard to retention.

My first concern is seeing my club excel in 06, second to see who takes over in season 07 and third to see what Brian does and whether the club will offer him a position within the the football club.

we'll just have to see what pans out but whatever happens we still have the perfect set up with the perfect personel to go with it I believe it's a system where even the ordinary head coach would thrive off [just as long as it's not Coleman, Langmack and Tommy Ridiculous]

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if any of those blokes were even considered for the job at quietly walk up to Fitzy and shove my membership badge up his arse.

and then I'd spend the next 3 hours washing my hands with soap and water.

I have to disagree mate. Not with everything but parts of that. There was plenty of ticker shown that night but you are right there was no skill. I watched it again on Sunday & They were doing all they could to claw back & that was the problem. They were trying too hard on a night that just wasn't ours.

People are also remembering that game as if we were playing a reserve grade team. Not so. All those guys almost immediately afterward forced permanant selection in the top side & simply showed they were always 1st graders waiting for a shot. Guys like Poore, Simms & Head, showed were good enough to see the Dragons release Firman & more recently Thompson.

The Dragons that year were much like we were this year with not just great depth but great talent & skill in that depth. The difference was they had injuries & had to run them. But I would expect our prems to stand up in much the same way if in a similar situation.

We didn't bend over. They were a better team. Get the old Programe out & look at the head to heads now with the benefit of hindsight. It wasn't so bad that they deserved what they copped (the boos). It was just a loss like many others.

True...

I guess I was just saying it because I, in those lean years, did get frustrated and blame Brian for our woes.

But deep down I always knew he was good for us.

He probably should....I mean, he's been earning a fair bit for 10 years now.

Plus I've never thought of him as a man interested solely in money...
