So Which Play Was Worse...

Of course not, but the ability that everyone goes on about here how he organises and leads his team around the park really well, was clearly missing.

Lets see how he goes on Saturday.

He gets the team all to himself , no more excuses from anyone.

We'll check out his ability to play at NRL level in the next few weeks won't we.

Its ok, I know you expect him to be the 2nd coming...and I can only think of one player who would've pulled our injured and tired team through those last 20 mins fresh off the bench and not even settled into the game...

Anyway yes lets see how he goes on Saturday, though maybe if the Broncos had as many injuries as we do then I might be getting excited about seeing him get to run the show properly. But I'm gonna not open my mouth about him showing us his standard first grade halfback qualities for oooh...about the 5th-10th time (depending on your opinion) since Round 1 2008 :)

Though the next few weeks will definitely be interesting, especially if we get a couple of our injured players back and one of Mullo or Rogers is still out.

Mate i realise you started the post but from your posts i dont even know that you know what kick your talking about? the kick you seem to be talking about didnt go to Sau it went to jimmy. Scott did a similar kick (not from our own 20) to jnr that made us quite a few metres and put Sau 1 on 1 with the fullback, a genuine scoring chance, particularly if he had 1 support player.
I'll have to watch the replay again - I was sure it went to Sau, but if it went to McManus that's probably even worse because whilst he is safe under the ball he wouldn't have the pace to make a 70 metre try.

He can kick a ball - that is not in question. It was the timing (first tackle), location (on our own 20), position (2 points down with a minute max on the clock) and the fact we'd made good metres all day up the middle.

I'm just disappointed that we don't have the maturity in the squad to make the smart decisions when we need to. In the scheme of things it was just too high risk given it was our last roll of the dice. I know we have a young developing squad but that game is going to cost us greatly over the coming months - for us to lose than many players to injury is bad enough, but to then lose the game the way we did is bitterly disappointing.

Speaking of which, who else noticed McManus bust the line yesterday, get 10 metres in open space and get run down from behind by that noted speedster BRYCE GIBBS...

I'm real confused now about what kick everyone is talking about seeing as both kicks were well done and we retained the ball, so surely neither kick can be considered a bad option? Id only consider it bad if we had a 5 on 1 overlap and he kicked to the opposite side of the field.

On a positive note, whether Scott's, Ben's or Kurt's kicks were bad options or not, I enjoy watching the exciting brand of football that we play and until our defence becomes a wall we cannot go away from that gameplan.

Yes he did well to bust the line..i was looking ahead to see where the fullback was and whether he had it covered, by the time i looked back to see who was supporting Jimmy for a draw and pass he was playing the ball...? wes made it 70 metres on one leg though their forwards and everyone was asking if he was in slow motion.....but he didnt get cought by gibbs.

However it was a good individual line break ;-) handy 10 metres and a solid performance.

On those crossfield kicks being risky, i think i have seen scott try them 6 or 7 times this year and each time they have found the hands of our winger, most of them have led to scoring opportunities and a lot of meters. He had to try something, in hindsight not the best play but we didnt go backwards or lose the ball....n fact we would of scored in the dying seconds if not for a sh*t call on a forward pass.

Very well said. I think this thread has more to do with attacking dureau as opposed to the kick that he did.

That might be Karma's objective but not mine. As I said initially, Rogers got called out for making a dumb call last week. Simply doing the same on Dureau. Just a dumb play at the time when we needed to make serious metres and have a decent shot at the line, not a miracle play on the first play.

I just don't see why a play that didn't cost us possession is worth crucifying the bloke over. Where as Rogers play would be the dumbest play since paul carrage booted the ball from near his try line on the siren in 1998, only for the other team to have a shot at field goal when the scores were even.

Or Terry Lamb going for a field goal when his team ( Bulldogs) was down 2 points:crazy:

Or Brett Finch when playing for Canberra going for a miracle drop out and kicking out on the full giving the Knights a penalty in front of the post....

Exactly, not a hope in hell.

But

6. Bird
7. Mullen

might win one. ;-)

Its only wishful thinking that this administration will even have the balls to seriously go after a local junior and bring him back home though isn't it...

One day Brian Smith will realise that the reason he hasn't won a competition yet, is because he tries doing it with halves who are only very average first grade footballers. He has done so for years, from the Dragons days, to the Eels days and now to the Knights...

Please Burro, give us something to cheer for , go make a serious bloody offer to Greg Bird. You sure as sh*t never tried to get Todd Carney.

Greg Bird can come home to Newcastle, and at the same time, remove himself from the Sydney publicity thats hounded him for the last year.

That appeal alone, could be enough to get him over the line if the money is competitive.

You cannot be serious about getting that scumbag at this club. I seriously would much rather collect spoons for the next 10 years then have that violent drunk at our club.

I would quite possibly give up supporting the knights while that mug was here.

Some things are important then winning footy match's.

Agreed, Bird's over rated as a 5/8th anyway...kills a lot of play by not promoting the ball. Makes a lot of poor decisions

What has he been convicted of so far to suggest that?

Seems a little ignorant... off field qualms aside i think we would end up paying overs for him. for the same price id preffer a good half or even a genuine 5/8. Not a top back rower trying to fit the mould.

Say whatever you like about Birds personal life and so on, he is still a very good footy player.

Not at all, I'm certainly not going to judge a bloke on the perception and slant of him via the media?

He has no ' violent drunk ' conviction yet, and I highly doubt the one in court right now will garner him one anytime soon. Though he is up for judgement from just one man - the judge, and if he gets the wrong one, his determination can go either way very easily. Like going up to the video ref for a line ball call , never know what your quite going to get!

Facts and what the media present to us though, are often 2 very different things.

He comes across as a grub
Your right in that the media cant be trusted as a basis for judgement as a person. But he puts himself in these situations. Just because there arent convictions doesnt mean he is innocent of any wrongdoing as well... normally at the end of the day people that have and maintain these reputations (that arent just brought about by media, i have a lot of friends in the shire) deserve them.
