Bird copped his treatment and seems to have come good. The jury is still out on Val. I would be surprised to see Beale again and Feki is on the cusp, probably being saved by his tremendous yardage carries.

It was a decision purely based on the game and the game Chad was having. It turned out to be a master stroke and I can't see anyone else being named at halfback other than Chad

What the F is this about mate? Tommy Bishop is 75. Sure he was a champion player in the 70s but the game has moved on since then. What is he going to tell him, to make sure he gets the loosehead and feed in the scrum? Or to cut out the KB lager before games?

Players could punch on all they wanted at Lidcombe Oval in the 70s but not anymore. You have to "back up" not swing hay makers.

Nearly crueled the whole f**king game. Curtis! I was previously a fan of Beale ahead of Leutele. And expected better from JSL also. Oh, how I was mistaken. But the Chad will come good. I expect Beale will improve also, but next year please. #IFWT

Interestingly, fullback Ben Barba said the Sharks weren’t as fluent in attack with Townsend off the field.

“Myself and Jimmy (Maloney) were just talking about it in the shower, even though (Jack) Birdy is a great ball runner, we sort of lost that connection there, when we had the chances down on their (Raiders) line.

“I was looking around there for a bit and Birdy was obviously so hungry to get the ball, he probably lost focus that he was playing in the halves.

“I’m sure (Townsend) will bounce back. Myself and Jimmy have already had a chat to him and said he’s got us to where we are and I’m sure he’ll bounce back.

“I told him it gave him a bit of extra rest for two weeks, so he can come out firing.’’

haha - not much love for Bird there.

The more I think of it, the more I think it was just an excuse to justify his bench choice rather than a masterstroke. He was always going to put Beale on in the last 20 and chose the worst back to replace.
