well vieri isn't australian but i'll go along those lines of an australian playing for another country

i know josip simunic played at korea/japan ... not sure if he scored, pretty sure he didn't they didn't have a good world cup. he's the only australian playing for other teams who played in a world cup before 06 that i know of

Ok this is tough so ill give up the answer....

The 1974 world cup was a tough path for the socceroos but they were the first side of the australian variety to make it to the world cup. 58 minutes into their first ever world cup match against east Germany, Aussie defender Colin Curran put the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 as the crowd went wild. Unfortunately he put the ball in his own net.

Marcio Santos missed brazils first penalty, Demetrio Albertini and Antonio Conte scored Italys 2nd and 3rd. i will never forget that shootout, 1st and only time ive cried over a game of football lol. mind you, i was 12.
