Apparently the NZRU wanted him to sign a 3 year deal and he only wanted a 2 year deal so they parted ways. The circus will continue.

Will SBW front up and fight Joseph Parker now? I doubt it but there's a million dollars on the table.

Nice try. NZRU would of given him 1 year if SBW asked for. He wants to play world cup only

That sounds weird because a 3 year deal would've taken through to 2016 and the Olympics. You'd think that'd be a goal of his

Is he up to his class? I don't know a whole lot about boxing but he only took up the sport a few years ago and doesn't even do it full time. By the sounds of it Parker would be a big jump up in ability, surely he's better off just continuing to improve and getting experience before taking on higher quality opposition.

It's not like he's making claims he's the boxer in NZ etc etc. Why the animosity?

Good decision for him. I doubt the money is that much greater in RU anyway unless you go to France/Japan. Plus he has a higher impact in league as a player and a figure.

He isn't as important to the All Blacks as he is to the NRL/Kiwis.

I absolutely HATE the roosters but this is a Great result for rugby league and the roosters. No doubt the salary cap skeptics will start making some noise.

Possibly. He's got a RWC medal, a SuperRugby championship, 4N championship, 2 NRL championships. An olympic medal might be a goal of his.

Parker is a genuine boxer. SBW is not in his league, and I don't think the fight would be doing anything more than capitalizing on SBW's celebrity.

I agree with you that SBW's boxing success shows what a genuine allround athlete he is

That's what I don't get, why do people expect him to take the fight then?

It's like being critical of and SG Ball player because he's not playing first grade yet. If SBW is good enough then he'll eventually make it there but surely he's better off taking more realistic fights for the time being and growing as a boxer.

The way he went about it was poor but having Sonny in both the World Cup and NRL 2014 is something everyone thought unlikely. Big boost for the profile of the game in world sport, but poor news for channel 9 sport viewers.

People have always cast aspersions over his boxing achievements. I'm sure there's a lot of people that would like to see him shown up.

Also, there aren't a lot of Kiwi fighters that are in Parker's league. Throwing around names for prospective opponents is fishing in a pretty small barrel.
