Sonny snubbing Yawnion

The way he went about it was poor but having Sonny in both the World Cup and NRL 2014 is something everyone thought unlikely. Big boost for the profile of the game in world sport, but poor news for channel 9 sport viewers.

Yeah, I'm sure it is big news in North, South America, Europe and Asia.

Behave.

Hilarious how everyone here suddenly whooping with joy about SBW staying in League whereas yesterday everyone was bagging him as an entitled ego-maniac who would be no loss to the game. Pathetic.

The reality is that money talks - and at the end of the day NZ rugby just doesn't have the money to compete with Aussie League - especially when Channel 9 and NRL supremos openly made it their priority to keep SBW in the game for the sake of viewership, gate-takings, and general publicity. You can be sure that plenty of sweeteners were on the table. The NZRU would have had to come up with some serious coin to lure him back - which they clearly failed to do.

Playing rugby on cold wet evenings in Hamilton probably looked a lot less appealing when he can earn a lot more on this side of the Tasman playing a code he grew up with.

The one thing I think should put a lot of smiles on people's faces is how stupid this news make s lot of News Ltd journalists look. How many times in the last week have we heard from a number of them saying SBW was "definitely done with rugby league and will be going back to Union"?

People have always cast aspersions over his boxing achievements. I'm sure there's a lot of people that would like to see him shown up.

Also, there aren't a lot of Kiwi fighters that are in Parker's league. Throwing around names for prospective opponents is fishing in a pretty small barrel.

Just had a look at Parker on Youtube. He has only had 6 or 7 fights; so you couldn't say he has too much experience on SBW in the fight game.

But, I agree Williams wouldn't go near him for fear of having his head disconnected from his shoulders and to be honest Parker wouldn't rate a mention in the world heavyweight division.

what about Paul Kent inside source: SBW is signing with the chefs because they left a spot for him in 2014 and NZRU told SBW that he must return in 2014 if he wants to play in the world cup :lol::lol:. How does this Merkin get away with making up shit constantly specially on Live TV

Don't the 7's have their own players though or do they pick teams from super 12's teams (whatever it's called these days)

Yes, they do: there would be no guarantee that SBW would make their 7's squad. Total different game; but if he applied himself, I would suggest he would make it.

NZ is a small country and the All Blacks can offer him only so much.

There's more money in Aussie RL than NZ yawnion.

I wouldn't be so sure it was about the coin. The NZRU is well cashed up and besides they wouldn't have been paying his main salary, the Chiefs would have.

Yep none of the 7's players are in Super Rugby, The NZ coach made it clear anyone who wants to play in Rio will need to switch to 7's for the whole 2016 season. SBW will make it if he applies himself

Honestly I don't even like the guy, but this is a GREAT thing for Rugby League and the NRL.
