you are missing the point

gidley was selected to play that role if needed

what would have the least disruption to the team? a like for like replacement and the player they picked was the closest they had

No matter what happens we would be weaker in the position lost. There is no getting around it. Gidley or Reynolds wont become Farah and he wont become Hayne

We are making the forward pack smaller and weaker in order to have a backup plan

Surely Sutton will get the nod over J. Reynolds. What does Josh bring to the table exactly? Kicking game? Not really. Great running game? Not really. Play-making ability? Nope. Just a bit of "mongrel," which means SFA against a side of Qld's quality

That's code for being an "origin player". Ennis had the mongrel, Ennis was an origin player, he was tailor made for it, we were told. Its too bad his origin career was cut short by being shit.

I hate this myth of mongrel/origin players. Pick the best player in the position ffs!

Agreed - what 'mongrel' did Lockyer have? Or Joey Johns? Thurston? Slater? etc...were they 'nigglers' in the sense of Ennis/Reynolds...

They should have picked Grant or Woods and capitalised on QLD's small bench. Better than picking a player just to cover who might not be needed.

These moronic NSW selectors never learn...

Besides being benched from a brain-dead decision by a rookie coach, when was the last time Farah was injured during a game or hooked because of fatigue?

Honestly, he's an 80 minute player, probably the toughest out of all the NSW players and we want to disrupt the rhythm and play making combination, only to potentially bring on a debutant with 'mongrel' that has played one game of hooker in his first grade career?

Given another back sustains an injury, we have Lewis and Bird to rotate and could have done with a prop or bigger forward for that last bench spot.

This is Origin, you die by the sword and players will lift and adapt in situations.

As a QLD fan I am very glad NSW haven't picked Grant over Reynolds.

And none of this "I don't know how many minutes he will get" garbage. If Grant had been picked, and told he has 25 minutes total match time to go beserk, that team is much stronger.

Didn't Farah get hooked by potter earlier this year?

When are you guys going to realise that Daley couldn't bring another prop into the 17 based on the other forwards he had?

He's already got his middle rotation for the game. Bringing in another prop f**ks with his strategy and the use of the players he's already picked. If you nuffies haven't realised, he's also chosen to go small and mobile.

The squad needed another right-side player. That's what Reynolds is at Canterbury. He picked Hoffman as the specialist left forward and there are Bird and Watmough who can fill in here too. Sutton is left side player at Souths as well.

Personally, I would've gone either Hinchcliffe or T Sims. Both are right side forwards who can interchange with Lewis and actually be used. NSW have made the wasted selection on the bench an art form. QLD always use their 17. Hinchcliffe also has the benefit of filling in at Acting half if required.

But another prop could not fit.

You know you're a NSWman when you find yourself in a bar last night droning out to your friends conversation because you've become fixated on staring at the life-size cut-out of Laurie Daley behind the bar.

I want that f**ker dead.

The only right side Reynolds will be experiencing is the right side of the bench.

He's not a forward FFS, this totally doesn't make sense if he's going to state certain forwards belong on left or right of the field.

Daley said it himself, he doesn't even know if Reynold's will get any game time. What in the flying F*^k?!

At least if it was a forward, he would be getting some game time, whether he thinks the grass on the left or right suits him better

I said I don't agree with the selection.

Ever since Wing, NSW selectors have gone down the route of the utility as an automatic selection.

Wing was one of the first players selected in the squad, even on the bench. He always had to be on the field at some point. He brought a new dimension to the side.

All the other utilities have been contingencies who are poorly used.

We just haven't had a gun utility (who could be selected in a specialist starting spot himself) of Wing's calibre since he left.

Man, Wing was positively deadly at the peak of his powers.

I feel like we're starting to get a bit of an insight to what makes you, you.

Did he sodomise you?

The only thing Laurie has done to upset him is play in a Rugby League competition he didn't like. When he was about 4 years old.

From MMM

We're hearing unbelievable reports surrounding the announcement of Josh Reynolds as the Blues 17th man which saw the wrong player named on Twitter.

Triple M's Matty Johns got more of an insight overnight revealing Josh Reynolds was preparing to leave NSW camp believing John Sutton had been chosen by coach Laurie Daley.

"Apparently he'd (Laurie) said to one or two players Sutto's (John Sutton) in the side which is cool," Matty recalled before Lozza got in contact to tell Josh those tweets aren't true.

Despite a bit of a stuff-up in the announcement, coach Laurie Daley has named Josh Reynolds as his 17th man, replacing Kurt Gidley who withdrew from the side on Monday with a foot injury.

The announcement turned confusing when several media outlets including the NSW Rugby League named the wrong player - namely John Sutton on the bench, before correctly naming Reynolds. It was a bit embarrassing, but they got there in the end.

Souths five-eighth John Sutton will remain as 18th man.

What a c**k up, so he'd started telling players and other people Sutton was in, then did a backflip.

I remember reading that Daley's opinions change like the wind. Seems that is true.

That's according to Matt Johns. I can't remember the last time one of his sources was actually correct.
