This. Big Big problem. It needs to stop, Sutton and J Reynolds shouldn't of even be thought of to be honest. If we are going to get a 2nd rower for impact (which Sutton would of been used for), why not use an actual 2nd rower with impact - T. Sims, Wade Graham who have been playing well and screams origin impact imo. Or another prop could of been better. People saying Sutton would have worked would be wrong, but also J Reynolds isn't going to work either
Why? Sutton plays the role of a backrower with kicking every week

Comparing to Tariq for example

Sutton has made 1111 meters from 118 hit ups this season - 9.4 meter per run avg., with 219 tackles and 18 missed
Tariq Sims has made 729 meters from 95 hit ups - 7.67 meters per run avg, and 211 tackles with 34 missed

Yes, playing behind the world's biggest pack. Even Meritt looks Origin quality behind that pack, they rarely have to defend! Sutton is fine, but he is not better than Luke Lewis or Greg Bird, not to mention Whatmough who are direct competitors in the backrow. He is not a creative number 6, he is a ball runner and Maloney/Carney are goalkickers.

The utility spot should go to someone who can make an impact and change the game in a heartbeat. Carney is that man IMO

This is a nonsense argument, Gallen is playing with a huge pack too in fact so does Bird, does that mean his stats don't count? For Sutton to be pulling out forward like stats while not actually playing in the forwards is pretty damn good, he is usually drawing 3-4 defenders, making a few breaks over game and getting offloads. He makes a ton of tackles and misses very few. He has an xfactor that NSW could have used.

I would not say he is as good as Bird or Gallen cause his numbers don't show that, but I imagine if he was playing in the back row full time they would be amongst the best in the game.

is sutton that much of a better option that you'd mess about with your starting halves?

i dont think so

Read. It is a scenario re injury.

He asked if something happened to Farrah what would happen if Sutton was on the bench.

Same with QLD. If Smith goes down QLD have nothing on the bench to help in that area so they are more screwed..... they would have to put Cronk to dummyhalf and have a makeshift 5/8 like Boyd or Inglis.

If Cam Smith went down what would QLD do? They would have to move Thurston there and have Inglis cover at five eight

Just as much of a patchwork solution. It's such a defensive strategy trying to plan for an injury

At least Sutton COULD do something else in the side besides sit on the bench in case of injury

This. They have Gillett and Teo they can move to the backs if needed. We have Bird, Lewis hell even Hoffman can play centre at a pinch. We waste a bench spot that could be for another prop on the off chance we lose a half.

Yet he wiped the floor with your team a few weeks back ;-)

IMO Sutton only started to shine when Inglis moved to fullback. If he can have a dominant game this weekend I'll admit I'm wrong but I am expecting him to be fairly quiet

you are missing the point

gidley was selected to play that role if needed

what would have the least disruption to the team? a like for like replacement and the player they picked was the closest they had
