The thing about Gidley is where does he get used? Farah's an 80 minute hooker, Hayne, Maloney and Pearce all play 80 minutes, Gallen, Lewis, Bird are all capable of that as well.

I can't see why NSW need a utility at all to be honest.

This, it's just ridiculous.

Even he must be sitting at home thinking 'again?'

He's never played terrible for NSW either but that doesn't stop this place going into meltdown about him and inventing that's he's been constantly terrible in previous Origin performances. This place never lets the truth get in the way of a good Gidley bashing.

I can understand people believing there are better options though. I would have been quite happy with an extra prop and Lewis playing utility, or even someone like Carney. Although I agree with whoever said they're covering for Farah, they may even be aiming to give him a planned rest this year.

Never ??????Haha . Go watch some of his games at fullback ...he was horrible

Woeful team. Picking inconsistent players on 2 weeks of decent games or out of form players barely playing at 1st grade standards, they're going to destroy us.

When is the last time a NSW based team has been league leaders without having 1 NSW player picked? Farcical. Laurie Daley has no idea.

Logical thinking. If only Inglis, Luke, & Burgess were NSW eligible players.

Woah guys, they picked Kurt Gidley?! 3/10.

Honestly, they could have thrown Gus Gould onto the bench - it wouldn't have meant jack given the formation of the starting pack. NSW could honestly operate off a 15 man bench in reality.

Honestly, I think this is one of the better sides the Blues could have picked. I have my doubts on the likes of Maloney and that backrow formation but it really comes down to personal preferences more than anything else.

I'm very interested to see how Hayne and Ferguson will play. For years fans have been calling for Hayne to play fullback and he finally begins a series in the custodian position. Jarryd has a lot of technical issues at the back, but his ability to ball-play and his natural athletic gifts make him a far more dangerous prospect than either Minichiello or B. Stewart.

Ferguson has been in relatively good form as of late, but it wasn't long ago he was regarded as one of the dumbest backs in the competition. Like Hayne, Blake is blessed with a lot of gifts but also like Hayne, he can let himself down by not applying attention to detail. Daley has really lead with his chin on this decision and I commend him for it. Ferguson is a confidence player and in-front of what should be a sold out ANZ Stadium, he should be in his element. His selection and performance will define Daley's stint as NSW coach.

So far, so good from the Blues.

I remember one game where he made 2 bad errors near the end, and everyone on here bagged the shit out of him even though the game was already lost. He ran for 260m in that game and got NSW's player's player.

I'm not saying he's amazing but he is one of those players people just love to bag.

Why is everybody groaning and acting surprised about Mitchell Pearce being picked, when Daley came out months ago and said that he'll be there?

I seriously think that the way the blues are going, if Gallen/Farah got hurt they'd pick him as captain.

It could 20-20 with 10 seconds on the clock and he could hand the ball to a Qlder in his own in goal for them to score the winning try and he wouldn't get dropped.

Take your red and green glasses off mate. Remember a couple of years ago when half the Saints team was picked for NSW for Origin 1. How did that work out for us?

Anybody can be a utility player, however the idea is to have someone who can play well in the position that they find themselves in and Gidley has not done this previously.

I wouldnt have selected him but the above statement is blatantly untrue. Gids always steps up to the plate in his rep games and rarely lets the team down when hes had to cover a position. This is true for both NSW and the Roos.

Gidley is the only player I can name who has played so mant positions in his FG career. People need to come to term with the fact that coaches and his fellow players love him. Keep hating though, its funny watching so mant numpties on here carrying on like princesses without a clue

Have a good look at that team...you wont see it again after game 1.

I thought we were over the Mitchell Pearce experiment..also what did Tim Grant do wrong ?
As much as I luv Luke Lewis he is getting on a bit..may not be up to it and picks up injuries often now. Hayne wow had a shocker in Mudgee
Gidley >wtf , Ferguson inconsistant will be overawed by the occasion.
It just goes on and on, Laurie Daley is not a coach with any knowledge he is just full of motherhood statements and will not be there next year.
My money is on a yet another QLD clean sweep.

Not picking Tim Grant and especially Carney I think is stupid, other then that its a good side beside usual stupid selections of Pearce and Gidley.

Exactly. We already have 2 players in Lewis and Bird that can play in just about any position on the park and do it better than Skids. There is absolutely 0 value in Gidley's selection, and he should consider himself very fortunate to be in the squad. On the other hand, Woods and Grant can consider themselves hard done by. Both would add 10 times the over all value that Gidley brings to the team...
Pretty happy with most of the squad bar Gidley and Pearce.
