Sorry but last time I checked, a hooker is part of the forwards

On paper yes, but when your hooker has to play 80mins you don't want him to be doing all that defensive work, all that is going to do is weaken his attack, your front and second rowers should be taking on that load.

A hooker should not be topping the tackle count

Ennis 46
Learoyd-Lahrs 15
Perry 18
Waterhouse 20
White 20
what bemuses me there is blokes like Waterhouse, Perry and White are picked for their reasonably high work rates, yet they pretty much fluffed about all night. Waterhouse didn't do a f*cking thing all night and Perry did even less, as difficult as that is.
*clambers onto soap-box*
I have never seen such an over-rated hack run out in a Blue jersey before then Josh Perry. He is slow, soft, lazy and completely uninspiring. His ongoing selection in representative teams is a blight on the game.
That is all.

Hookers these days are part of the attack. If your hooker wastes all his petrol on defence then he'll be unable to offer any zip around ruck. I bet Cam Smith NEVER has to extend himself in defence for QLD.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Smith is a classic example he is a hooker with the sight of a halfback this is why he is the best in the game

Origin is about passion and committment, that's why i don't think Smith or Anderson would really make a great successful Origin coach. There is no time in Origin camp for master strategies. Look at Meninga, if he had an NRL side now i believe he would fail big time but he is now on the verge of 5 straight series wins as a coach. And it's not because of his great tactical thinking. That's why gould was successful as an origin coach although he had the smarts as well as the passion. In saying that i can't think of someone who would be ideal for the NSW job

CSmith makes a bucket load of tackles for the Storm, usually tops the tackle count. Farah the same for the tigers. Friend for the titans etc...

The highest tacklers generally are the backrow and hooker, cause the fact they usually play the 80min and in the middle 3rd of the field where traffic is at its premium throughout the game.

Really ?

I randomly picked this game and looked for Farah's 80 min effort on a close game.

Farah 15 tackles
Fulton 48
Gibbs 26
Heighington 38
Ellis 30
Ayshford 26
Flanagan 33

You may well be right that a lot of the hookers rack up high numbers because they play in heavy traffic, but my point is you'd prefer Isaac Luke or Cam Smith to be fresh rather than blowing hard. IMO the Tigers got the mix right in this game (even though they lost by a few points LOL).

cam has extended himself for both QLD and AUS

4 nations final cam made 40 tackles

SOO 09
- game 1: 45 tackles
- game 2: 43 tackles
- game 3: 26 tackles

his avg tackle count this season is 36.25

80 minute hookers are the fittest and toughest players in the game. the only player that should be protected and not have to make a lot of tackles are half backs.
