Good to meet Adamkungl randomly lol.

1. Iron Maiden - Waited ten years. Did not fail. Amazing setlist, amazing f*cking everything.
2. Dimmu Borgir - Absolutely incredible.
3. Murderdolls - One of the best. Good to finally see them.
4. Coheed And Cambria - Again, only caught a little bit. Worth running to catch!
5. Rob Zombie - Sadly only caught a bit. He started late, thanks to the video equipment.
6. Devildriver - One of the highlights of the day. He's still bloody got it.
7. Queens Of The Stone Age - Only saw a bit. Was good to catch.
8. 36 Crazyfists - Got there twenty minutes late, a decent set.
9. Slash - I can admit he's talented. I still think he's a bit of a twat.
10. One Day As A Lion - Didn't get into it.
11. All That Remains - Got "This Calling" out of the way quick, the rest was fairly average.
12. Rise To Remain - Didn't think too much of them to be honest.
13. High On Fire - Hilarious. Kept saying "we don't wait at the start of a set, we get straight into it". After one song the equipment fried.
14. The Starting Line - ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
15. Taking Dawn - Why the f*ck does a metal band try to pull off a Fleetwood Mac cover?
16. 30 Seconds To Mars - Expected not much. Got less. Actually, not fair. The band were ok. Jared Leto...you're a f*ckwit.

best organised soundwave ever...seats, shade and a much better bar system...loved the day but still managed to get badly sunburnt. Got to see everyone I wanted to see and much more...

1. MXPX/The Ataris (7/10) - didn't really know these guys before, but quite enjoyed their set...seen maybe 20-30 minutes before ditching to see sum 41
2. Sum 41 (9/10) - the mosh was f**king packed and no surprise to see about 50 people (mainly chicks) leaving 30 seconds into the first song...my mate got KO'd by a crowd surfer..great fun though always love seeing a punk band and everyone going nuts. Played a good set for my taste too.
3. Bullet for my Valentine (7/10) - didn't play exactly what I wanted although I missed the start...still well worth seeing
4. Stonesour (8/10) - went to see these guys just to hear one song, stayed the entire set...really enjoyed them and will listen to them more now I think
5. Anberlin (9/10) - Only seen the last song, and it was the main song I wanted to hear and it went off. Very enjoyable and disappointed I didnt get to see more.
6. Slash (7/10) - Rating maybe because I wasn't that into him but I enjoyed his set and good to hear a few classics
7. Primus (4/10) - found them to be a bit boring, although i'm not into their music
8. 30 Seconds to Mars (2/10) - TERRIBLE. biggest disappointment ever...they have a less than 1 hour set, yet spend half the time talking...sound was tragic as well. Couldn't even hear the singer. Bailed early to get a good spot for NFG.
9. New Found Glory (10/10) - Absolutely in love with these guys. Got punched in the mouth early on but lasted the whole set...they always put on a good show...can't wait to see their own gig when they come back to sydney. Everything I wanted to hear again.
10. Rob Zombie (5/10) - Not really into this music but it wasn't the worst act of the day.

Sydney Soundwave was pretty good. Venue is 1000x better at Homebush than at Eastern Creek. No lines for beer or dunnies - easy to get from the metal stage to the main stage.

My day went like this:

The Sword - Really awesome set. Played a good mix of all three albums - Winter Wolves to close was tops. Had the crowd going off for such an early timeslot. They won over a lot of new fans from the group I went with.

Sevendust - OK i guess. I'm not a big fan of theirs.

Monster Magnet - I love these guys but was a bit disappointed with the set. They played Orb, Dopes to Infinity and Powertrip which was good. They did play some off the new album which I haven't got around to buying yet. A bit too early in the day I think for the Magnet.

Devildriver - Pretty good. Caught the second half of their set. Played "Hold back the day" which I really dig. Crowd was going nuts.

Stone sour - Not my cup of tea at all. ZZZ

Primus - Watched a couple of songs and had to run to High on Fire. Set wasn't great - no Jerry, John the Fisherman, Winona etc. Got back in time for the last song - pretty lacklustre unfortunately.

High on Fire - First time seeing these guys and the f**kin PA dies! Pike was gonna kill someone. Twice during the set it cut out and they lost like 10 mins out of their already short set time. Given what was about to happen with Slayer they should have let them come back on. Snakes for the Divine sounds immense live. Short but sweet!

Slash - Caught half the set. A lot better than I thought - was good to hear some of Appetite for Destruction live seen as I have never seen Gunners.

Slayer - Yeah as already pointed out they pulled the pin. Why they waited until 15 mins after they were supposed to start to tell the crowd?? Should have put High on Fire back out! It was ridiculous that they weren't on the main stage. It was so packed it wasn't funny. Lucky there wasn't more of a riot. I have seen them like 5 times but was disappointed for a few of my mates who mainly came for Slayer and have never seen them. There was some angry Slayer "fans" haha

Kylesa - After the Slayer fans had disappeared these guys absolutely ripped. Spiral Shadow sounds so much better live and the Static Tensions stuff rules. That chick is also seriously hot. Top show.

Rob Zombie - Really good. Awesome set all the favs. Never saw White Zombie so this was a bit of a flashback to high school for me and my mates.

Melvins - Just brilliant. Highlight of the day for me. So heavy! Finished with The Bit. Blew me away.

Pennywise - Chose these guys over the second half of Maiden. Basically because thats who my mates wanted to watch. They were fun and played a lot of the old stuff that I know. Shame I missed Maiden but I heard it was pretty boring.

All in all an awesome day. Wicked hangover this morning!

Matty, what was the 1 Stone Sour song? "Get Inside" is alright as are a couple of others, but "Bother" is the only song I'd have wanted to miss the end of Millencolin for :-(

They were either going to play Bother or Get inside. Just before they were going to play get inside, corey taylor said something along the lines of... "Now we are not going to play the song that you're all thinking of but we are going to play the song you were hoping for" Just before that I was thinking of bother and hoping for get inside, so he pretty much read my mind. Would have loved to see bother though. My prediction is he will play bother at 1 venue and tribute it to Paul Gray.

Where did I say I love them? But anyway to say they are cut from the same cloth is ridiculous. They are nothing alike. I can not see any similarities whatsoever. Welsh hardcore vs american commercial hmmm. Bfmv may get one song on jjj in a week 30stm r on what all radio stations on high rotation. But we are all entitled to our opinions I guess.

Bullet For My Valentine are hardcore? Seriously? They have metalcore screaming and clean vocals. They're essentially a slightly heavier but less commercial version of 30STM.

If your a big pennywise fan like me i think you will be impressed with Zoli's vocals

Dude I f**king loved it! His vocals r so good. And tbh actually pretty similar but can hit a high note better than Jim. Jim was awesome but had a monotonous tone to an extent.

Mad caddies were so fun

Pennywise were f**king awesome but to many angry kids in the put haha

Millencolin were really fun. I love them! Mr clean, random I am, story of my life for an encore was awesome.

Lots of fun and a good decision to go

Metalcore hardcore same thing. Metal subgenres are open to individual interpretation no point arguing about the genre. But have you even listened to either band? Listen to both their heaviest songs let's say scream aim fire vs the kill. There is a massive difference in heaviness. Infact 30stm only has what 2 maybe 3 heavy songs?? ( if u can call them heavy)Even bfmv slower songs are heavier than 30stm's heaviest. Both bands also have a completely different image. 30stm has a bunch of pretty boys headlined by the prettiest boy/girl of them all, Jared Leto. I don't even know what the singer from bfmv name is but he sure ain't a pretty boy.

You know they came out again after that and played Bullion and black eye?

Not at all.

Ok, there are about 400 metal sub genres each is differentiated by small subtleties, and personal interpretation. I do not claim to be an expert on these sub genres but I did find this on ultimate-guitar.com "The differences in these genres nowadays is almost nil. Both have adapted the screaminess earlier established, though usually one more than the other (Metalcore continues to use it throughout each song, and Hardcore more usually as a highlight in certain -heavier- portions)" So to me that definition would put bands such as Killswitch engage, BFMV, As I lay Dying, All that remains and 36 crazyfists into the 'Hardcore' genre. But you could also argue they would fit into metalcore as you could break it down into individual songs and sub genres.

Now this is just one interpretation of these 2 sub genres and I am sure you will find plenty of other sites that have totally different definitions.

At the end of the day, I don't really care what metal sub genre a particular band falls under as long as it sounds good.

I went to Brisbane. The Sword. A million times The Sword.

Stone Sour were terrible imo. I admit I am not familiar with it but it was just sh*te and posturing.

Protest the Hero were great. It was a long day and I was a bit over the whole thing but I am glad i stayed for them.

Slayer weren't the same Slayer I have seen in the past. Mayeb time to hang up the flying V.

Gaslight, were good. Murderdolls wore shiny stuff and held my interest longer than expected.

Even as a Metalcore fan so much of the sh*t played today was samey. Amity Affliction had the crowd going nuts.

Metalcore/hardcore actual differences confuse me...but I generally find I don't mind metalcore, whereas hardcore is pretty sh*t... metalcore tends to have better guitar work imo. Or maybe I'm just rambling sh*t.

just got back from sydney after having one of the most epic weeks ever...reviews of the bands i saw this week:

FRIDAY:

H2O: insanely awesome. so cool to finally see them. If I have a criticism its that they played too many from their newest album and not enough from their best album (only 2 from FTTW). 8/10

SATURDAY (Soundwave):

Ataris/MXPX- Wasn't worth getting there so early for. MXPX songs were better than ataris. 5/10

Millencolin- fun stuff, danced and sang to an album that defines an era. sign of things to come for monday night.... 8/10

Bullet for my Valentine- Despite the fact that the start was plagued by sound issues, they were f**king awesome. totally rocked the f**k out. played most of my fave songs besides 4 words. 9/10

Blessthefall- bit of a filler band for me tbh. They were alright at times, the singer jumped off the top of stacked speakers into the crowd, that was pretty rad and despite being one of those poppy girly hardcore bands, they didnt act overly faggy like some of those bands do. 6/10

Slash- Had no plans at all to see him, but was tired and he was on main stage so i checked it out and it wasn't bad at all for what it was. played a few GnR songs. Not really my thing tho. 5/10

H2O- Same setlist as friday but seemed to be more energy and the crowd was so into it, i screamed my lungs out to this. loved every second of it. 9/10

Mad Caddies- Only got to see the last 3 songs since they half clashed with H2O and their stage was ages away from H2O's. Pretty fun from what I saw, again a sign of things to come for Monday. 6/10

Coheed & Cambria- umm went ok I guess, sat there watching them waiting for Less Than Jake. Played overtime and made LTJ's set shorter. lame. 4/10

Less Than Jake- Had so much fun, played faster than how it is on the cd so it was fast paced dancing and singing, all awesome songs too. 9.5/10

Anberlin- Awesome stuff. Wasn't as good as last time i saw them, but that would be pretty hard to do since their last show was the best show I had ever been to. I was worried they would play all new songs but they kept it to a minimum and the new songs they did play were the ones i liked. seemed to have so much energy, great stage presence as always. 9/10

MONDAY:

Mad Caddies- What a fun band. rocked out I had a good dance, good times all around. 8/10

Pennywise- First time I have seen them with Zoli Teglas (who i think is the best singer in punk/hardcore). Even tho Pennywise is my favourite band, It's sad to see Zoli use his incredible voice on Pennywise. The show was a little too preachy for my liking. Nice choice of setlist, a little different which is good since the other 9 times I have seen them have had very similar setlists. 8.5/10

Millencolin- omfg. this was off the chain. The crowd was so awesome. everyone in the place knew every word to every song and they showed it. every song was accompanied by a huge singalong from the crowd that sounded like an fa cup final. was so f**king cool to be a part of. Millencolin were awesome as well. rocked out, played 2 encores and played for a good 1 and a half hours which is very long for a punk band. Also played f**king Story of my life at the end. That and I watched it from the side of the stage was pretty damn cool. 10/10

after the show, I went back and met Rusty Pistachio, Todd Morse, Adam Blake, Nikola Sarcevic & Erik Ohlsson. super awesome.

WEDNESDAY:

H2O: I was pretty sick so I only turned up to watch H2O and left after they finished. They were so good tho, really pumped up the crowd and toby put the mic to my mouth during What Happened. f**king so cool. 9/10

It's finally Soundwave day!

For anyone else going, apparently Sum 41 have pulled out due to one of their members getting pneumonia in Sydney - he's still in a Sydney hospital - so International Superheroes of Hardcore have taken their place.
