I had to watch 30 Seconds To Mars also... the better half is a fan and they were the only band she wanted to see all day so it was a sacrifice I had to make.
Seriously though, as much as I hate their music, Jared Leto knows how to work a crowd. He's a wonderful showman.
I also couldn't understand the way some people actually came to watch them just to heckle. One guy, ironically wearing a Murderdolls shirt (who were playing at the exact same time) was actually giving up watching what are clearly one of his favourite bands just so he could yell out "go back to Hollywood Jared you androtop!". I'll never understand people like that.
Overall, I had a great day. Going in, I thought the highlight for me would be seeing Iron Maiden live and in the flesh... but as good as they were at the end (didn't like the start of their show, lacklustre to the point that it sealed the deal for me to see Millencolin and return afterwards), even they were blown away by the absolutely amazing Mad Caddies. I've wanted to see the Caddies for years, and they were far, far better than I had hoped they would be. Amazing live show, and I already can't wait for them to come back. The best band I saw all day by far.
ive only listened to the caddies for the past 2 years...and saw them at sydney soundwave and the next night in sydney at their sideshow with pennywise and millencolin and by far they were the funnest band ive seen. the singers voice sounds exactly like it does on record. and he has an awesome voice for a punk/ska band. ppl say reel big fish are the bench mark for fun ska shows but after seeing mad caddies id have to say theyre very very closely to taking over!
as much as i like Mad Caddies, there is no more fun filled ska show as the Aquabats.
Ok, there are about 400 metal sub genres each is differentiated by small subtleties, and personal interpretation. I do not claim to be an expert on these sub genres but I did find this on ultimate-guitar.com "The differences in these genres nowadays is almost nil. Both have adapted the screaminess earlier established, though usually one more than the other (Metalcore continues to use it throughout each song, and Hardcore more usually as a highlight in certain -heavier- portions)" So to me that definition would put bands such as Killswitch engage, BFMV, As I lay Dying, All that remains and 36 crazyfists into the 'Hardcore' genre. But you could also argue they would fit into metalcore as you could break it down into individual songs and sub genres.
Now this is just one interpretation of these 2 sub genres and I am sure you will find plenty of other sites that have totally different definitions.
At the end of the day, I don't really care what metal sub genre a particular band falls under as long as it sounds good.
I went to Brisbane. The Sword. A million times The Sword.
Stone Sour were terrible imo. I admit I am not familiar with it but it was just sh*te and posturing.
Protest the Hero were great. It was a long day and I was a bit over the whole thing but I am glad i stayed for them.
Slayer weren't the same Slayer I have seen in the past. Mayeb time to hang up the flying V.
Gaslight, were good. Murderdolls wore shiny stuff and held my interest longer than expected.
Even as a Metalcore fan so much of the sh*t played today was samey. Amity Affliction had the crowd going nuts.
Metalcore/hardcore actual differences confuse me...but I generally find I don't mind metalcore, whereas hardcore is pretty sh*t... metalcore tends to have better guitar work imo. Or maybe I'm just rambling sh*t.
The Porkers were a damn fun live show back in their day. Id love to see them play again!
I wonder what Soundwave Revolution will be??
not too sure how reliable my source is but he does know the promoter (but with the info hes given me im not sure if hes pulling my leg)
apparently its another soundwave festival at the end of september...so bookend the festival season. one at the start and one at the end. and he told me 2 bands that are apparently signed The Dangerous Summer and Rancid. dont take my word for it but he said hes 99% sure of this.
if this is true then it would be pretty awesome. id say soundwave festival will become the biggest festival/touring company in australia if they pull this off

If there is a modicum of truth to this claim I will deadset bown down to this AJ merkin! Last time Rancid toured I was all primed to go and I had a car accident on the day.
If he pulls this off (apparently Tim is still whining like a bitch about Brodie and won't come back to Australia because of it) he'll have successfully got two of my 5 fav bands EVER to Australia after many years of sh*t luck. All he needs to do now is bring X and I'll have seen my top 5 live!
Unlike your "source" Nath I do actually have a friend who knows AJ (she met Mike Ness and got a guitar pick for me, bless). If she finds out anything and is allowed to tell me then she will! ;-)
