Soundwave 2016

Instead of getting 2-5 really good bands and filling the rest with 40 doses of crap why not just get 5-7 really good bands and give them 1.5hr sets. I'd imagine a line up of metal/core bands like this would sell well and cost half the price

Parkway Drive / Cheap local act to open
BFMV / Cheap International act that always tour
In Flames
Trivium
Killswitch
A7X / Disturbed / Who ever is really popular at the time
Megadeth / Headliner

Quality over Quantity

I'd rather pay for the 2016 lineup than that one.

No Sleep Til was alright, but that f**king weekend sucked with the rain and shit. Suicide Silence was my fav of the day!

Yeah that rain was shit. I had to miss NOFX just so I could convince Josh to stay for Descendents and Milo's voice gave out so it wasn't that great :(

That was just an example. Maybe have a Metal/Metalcore lineup every second year and punk lineup alternating to keep it fresh. Just have to stick with the one genre on the day to keep the fans interested.

This is why the doof doof pinger festivals go well. The audience wants to see most of the acts (before they OD)

I'll take quantity. I go to festivals for variation. Can see a 1.5 hr Megadeth set every 6 months or so when they tour here.

I must be living on another planet, but hasn't Soundwave pretty much been the premier music event on the festival calendar?

They made a bad commercial decision anticipating that people would adapt to a two day format in the absence of the usually dreadful Big Day Out that was always teetering on the brink of collapse because it catered to JJJ bullshit.

I can't ever remember a time where a BDO band list was preferable to what was on at Soundwave.

True, though I don't actually think it was the two day event that killed it, it was AJs other business ventures. He was haemorrhaging money on his non-soundwave stuff, which was sucking all the profitability out of his business as a whole.

Agree on the Big Day Out too. It was a great concept in the 90s/2000s when it pretty much became "Lolapalooza Oz" and tapped into the whole grunge/alternative gone mainstream thing, but the music scene changed in the mid 2000s to the point where they were trying to cater to too many fans and genres at once. Soundwave overtook it because at that time AJ knew his market and kept it primarily as a punk/metal/hardcore festival, so fans could turn up knowing there would be a good number of bands on the bill they would like and get their money's worth from.

you are confusing it with Splendour In The Grass

BDO has been mainstream bullshit for a decade now

not 10 years

I went about 6 or so years back and the 2 main bands were Ramstein and Tool, one of the best BDOs I ever saw, although they didn't have much competition except for Livid about 10-12 years back and some of those were pretty good

All Soundwave tickets to be fully refunded

The Soundwave ticketing agent, Eventopia, will be issuing refunds to fans who bought tickets to the cancelled festival.

Since Soundwave 2016 was cancelled last week there's been a back-and-forth between ticketing agent Eventopia and the music festival's promoter AJ Maddah.

Tickets to the festival sold for $185 and Eventopia told punters Soundwave had their money, sending an email to all ticketholders telling them to contact the festival for a refund.

But AJ Maddah, whose former company is in administration with debts of $26 million, said he did not have any money to pay the refunds, and claimed the ticketing agent was responsible.

The collapse of Soundwave was the final chapter in a remarkable story of the rise and fall of its promoter AJ Maddah.

While Eventopia hasn't gone as far as admitting responsibility it has told fans to step forward with refund requests, saying ticketholders should have their money back in 21 business days.

"To ensure fans are not disadvantaged Eventopia has sent an email this afternoon to all customers inviting them to apply for a full refund of their Soundwave 2016 ticket prior to January 31 2016," the ticketing agent said in a statement.

Just make it like they did in the first year, it was awesome, just a small festival with 2 stages. Or have it like No Sleep Til. One stage for punk, one for metal.
that was awezome in sydney. Me first, frenzal, dropkick murphys, nofx, descendents. Between setlist and fat mike being near sober best ive seen nofx play i think.

Two day festival was a recipe for disaster. Not shocked by all this. Never bothered with it though.

agreed shows in smaller venues are good. The bronx at the metro was great 18 months ago. Old annandale hotel days were awesome, newtown social club has been good when ive seen bands there.

Well legion is starting to look ok for a last minute thing.

They are trying to crowd fund it, so far they are at 175k and need $3mil.

Confirmed acts so far with about 15 more to come.
