If the poll simply said 'yes' or 'no' then I would have picked 'yes.' However, No was accompanied by lol@50uff$ and that button was just too damn hard to resist clicking.

How good is this, A thread about Souths with minimal BS, even the usual suspects are behaving themselves, well done

I do not think Souths can Win it this year.....but as Pops said over in his thread, they have built a nice solid cement slab foundation for the future.........within the next two years, maybe they can win it......within the next two years after that, definitely

my Dad passed away two years ago, he was a diehard, tragic Souths Supporter he will be sitting upstairs at the moment proud as punch and loving every moment of the Souths Resurgence......and when Souths win it, I will be having about 50,000 Beers to celebrate for him (hopefully my liver will be fully recovered after 2008 and 2011)

Well Done guys, for not turning this thread into a shit fight

IMO we have most of the ingredients.

1. Great spine with the right mix of youth / experience
2. X-Factor with the likes of Inglis and Luke
3. A Forward pack that has the ability to dominate
4. A game plan that is fairly bulletproof
5. Good depth in reserves
6. Excellent kicking game and goal kicker

The only things we lack-

1. Strike centres
2. Fantastic defence

While both of these areas are solid, I don't think that our defence is real premiership material atm. It needs to stiffen up a bit.

To me, we lack some strike in the centres and while Champion and Goodwin are doing ok, I think that if we'd have picked up a player like Jennings in the preseason, we'd be odd's on favourites to win the comp. At the moment, our attack relies too much on Inglis chiming in out wide. Hopefully, someone like Dylan Walker can get a run in first grade at some point and make a go of it. He could be a key ingredient in our success.

In saying that, I have seen less complete teams than this current Souths side, win the competition.

The core of this team has years left. All of our best players have their best years ahead of them and we've got them all locked in beyond this season.

Inglis, Sam Burgess, George Burgess, Reynolds, Luke, Sutton. Our roster is designed to be a top 4 contender for the majority of the rest of this decade.

Of course talented rosters have failed to win premierships in the past. But I think we're better placed than anyone else to contend this season as well as the foreseeable future.

 And you wonder why people don't like you. You sound like a boasting Banana Bender except that you haven't won anything yet. Your team is going very well so just sit back and enjoy it. You don't have to spout things like above.

Surely their premiership hopes have taken a massive blow with lynch pin everingham staring down the barrel of a 2-3 week suspension :sarcasm:

I'd put him as our worst player over the last couple of weeks. Handed the Cows a try last week. There's a number of up and comers in NSW cup I'd love to see have a chance and if Evro gets suspended I think it'll make us a better team.

Just out of curiosity, how many current Souths players & coaching staff were at Souths in the middle of last decade - the end of that huge run without a playoff game?

I suspect that you'd probably count those people on one hand - and that's a huge factor.

As new players and coaching staff come to the club you can get a new mindset to replace the stale thinking that's not working anymore. That filters across to the juniors coming through the ranks, and you get a revitalised club.

I think Souths are EVERY chance of winning a grand final within 3 years - and might even do it this year because of the change in mindset that's happened over the last few years - especially since Maguire has been at the club.
