Hey between my Kiwi spelling prowess with aboriginal words and a spellchecker that's not all that useful, a slip-up is surely understandable? My point stands though.*Wollongong.

Win corp is worth billionsWollongong, and I presume Gosford would be similar, is one those betwix places. Too small to host a FT NRL club and too big for the game to ignore.
Looking at all the apartments going up here as it, and the other southern towns around here, increasingly becomes a commuter city for Sydney that may change in 30-40 years.
Ideally an NRl club should have around 500-750k min population reach Id say for the revenue clubs now need to generate.
11k crowds and one big company does not make for viability. Nor does relying on pokie dens moving forward.Win corp is worth billions
a full time team at the gong is feasible
as would a team at Gosford backed by two leagues clubs and the north shore
No worries bro. I've come across a number of people here in Australia that spelt it "Woolongong'. You are not the only one in that regard.Hey between my Kiwi spelling prowess with aboriginal words and a spellchecker that's not all that useful, a slip-up is surely understandable? Yes it does11k crowds and one big company does not make for viability. Nor does relying on pokie dens moving forward.
Fair points there - and the angle I was getting at was that regardless of *why* the regional teams fell-away, the A-league hasn't had the desire to expand again into regional towns - maybe reasoning that there's more money to be made in tripling-down on metro derbies? The A League regional teams of Gold Coast and Townsville are not great examples. Clive Palmer was the owner of Gold Coast United. Enough said. With North Qld, since their owner departed, the FFA were more interested in replacing them for WSW.
Plus A League expansion into Qld happened at the same time the FFA was bidding to host the 2022 world cup. They spent more time on the bid, instead of concentrating on the new sides in Qld. The FFA took their eye off the A League at the wrong time.
NRL doesn't want any more small clubs struggling to stay afloat. Clubs need to be generating $6-9mill in corporates sales and sponsorship each year. Of all the regional clubs only Cowboys have actually managed to thrive in football club revenue generationYes it does
gambling revenue is recurring even if you don’t like it
Even better on top of two leagues club central coast bears were backed by John singleton
who not only is rich is one of the most successful marketers in Australia

and thats before we get to the tv value of metro and regional discussion!
The Central Coast Bears idea is dead, there are just way to many teams in NSW, Sydney crowds are dwindling and clubs like the Roosters, Newcastle and Manly have done and will do everything in their power to make sure there is never a NRL team on the Central Coast. The NRL could expand to 22 teams, the same amount that was across two comps back in '97. Then again, there is no guarantees that Sydney still has 9 teams for many decades to come. Wests Tigers needs to be wary of Canterbury. But that's another topic.
I'll continue with more on another post...
Saying no to singleton was stupidC

Trust me I was heavily involved with the Bears Central Coast bid, we signed over 8,000 members between 2010-2011, the NRL told Central Coast fans to vote with their feet, we did selling out three NRL games at Central Coast Stadium will over 20,000 capacity.
The NRL then said expansion would not be considered until 2014, 2014 came and the NRL said expansion would not be considered until all of its teams were financially viable, yeah like that is ever going to happen.
The NRL kept moving the goal posts again and again and again.
Given they've shunned Gosford at every opportunity Id suggest history is a good teacher in this case. You are the last person who knows what the arlc want

Good point, I believe in Gallops period they did have some notion of bringing in Perth and Gosford. Then when Grant took over they parked everything expansion related, Beattie took over with his 'expand or die' strong statement and talked up expansion again and commissioned a study on expansion options, then Vlandys picked it up when he took over and actually did something.Fair enough.
In 2010-11, Gallop was CEO and the governing body was part owned by News Ltd. When 2014 came around, Smith was CEO., and the NRL had an independent commission in it's place.
Goal posts move because you could have different people in charge with different opinions. At my workplace, I've had five different managers over the last three and a half years. Not exactly a stable environment.

Not really theres only been two real expansion opportunities. One (2023) was location specific (Brisbane2) the other was a toss up between Gold Coast and Gosford (2007) at a time Perth was no where near ready for a club again. Gosford lost.*perth
Arlc is lukewarm towards Perth unless the bears are includedNot really theres only been two real expansion opportunities. And now the nrl is very clear there will be no more NSW clubs considered in next expansion options.
Like I said history is a teacher and in this instance the lesson is NRl doesn't see Gosford as a viable location for an NRL club.
If when we go to 18 clubs Perth is ignored then you have a point.
