easy is relative
good scouts make finding a continued stream of talent easy
Melbourne is ran like a professional organization

how many sydney clubs sitting on big nurseries are complete basket cases on and off the field?
Not so many

tigers and dragons

Penrith are the benchmark for the nrl

it’s them then daylight

at least they did it well lol, unlike certain other clubs who couldn't even cheat successfully

or cronulla who cheated, stopped for a year and won a comp, then the next year cheated again
Our timing was impeccable. Respect please hahaha

Manly smashed them by close to 40 in the grand final when they were cheating

What a great grand final that was to go too

they cheated to retain players they themselves had debuted, not to go out and poach other established players

funny that arguments about incentives to help clubs keep debuted players are talked about now, to try and increase the number of one club players, Melbourne just created that themselves, illegally, lol

and its not like they struggled for years after shedding that talent either

True but it’s still cheating

and they brought in wrestling which is another form of cheating

and all the penalties that smith and slater would get

storm should change their name to koalas

again, exactly

Perth RL fans choice - pick a new code or accept you can no longer attend live games
Bears RL fans choice - 9 other NRL clubs & an abundance of games each week to watch live

its not the same
There are many old Bears fans who have been lost to rugby league, some went to Yawnion, some went to AFL.
I tried to follow the Knights because I am mates with Paul Harrogan and played junior reps against him, but when he retired my interest was lost.
I just focussed on coaching my sons local teams and that is how I have gotten to know kids like Nicho Hynes, the Saifiti Brothers, Connor Watson, Jesse Ramien, Bradman Best etc.
It is still weird hearing their names on the Tele and good catching up with them when we cross pathes.

you kept your interest in RL which is the main point
there's actually a lot of people who are just RL fans first and don't feel any affinity to any club, especially in rural areas, they'll have soft spots for clubs that will come and go but end of the day they are just RL fans

and digs and Melbourne paranoia aside from what ive read you seem like one of the more reasonable bears fans ie relocation

I see the value in the bears branding - but thats about it (it is a very good pro though)
Im just extremely wary of the baggage that potentially comes with it if its a situation where the bears maintain control of the license, some of your board members and a vocal (maybe minority?) of fans have been quite clear on how they want it to happen

branding - very beneficial
junior systems - can come from any junir club partnership regardless, so a bit of a non point for me
controlling stake - no

the new area needs to hold ideally 100% of the license, any less than this and im worried we will have a st merg or tigpies situation

another option would be for the bears to set up shop and fully commit to the new area, bit harder somewhere like Perth, who already have a bit of a RL identity, but anywhere else could be a good fit, set up a branch of the leagues club and operate the club 100% from that location

"being open to anywhere" like they are now doesn't give off a good look for the potential fans in whatever city they might end up in as it shows they don't really give 2 shits about the city just the license

You’d like where I live, Greg Florimo lives in Shelly Beach 5 mins away, Bruce McGuire ex-Tigers lives in Shelly Beach also, David Fairleigh lives in Wamberal 8 mins away, Steve Ella lives in the same street as Dave but at the bottom of the hill, Brett Kenny lives in Bateau Bay 5 mins away, Jamie Goddard lives in Wamberal, Terry Leabeater lex-Parramatta lives in Terrigal, Peter Sterling lives in Terrigal, Mark Ella lives in Bateau Bay as well.

I 100% agree, I’m probably cautious of giving anybody ownership because of what happened with the Bears with the Northern Eagles.
Manly played their hand, they survived, kudos to them, it’s not what I would’ve done but that’s life or death for the Bears anyways lol.
With your last paragraph, that’s what really gets me, the press link the Bears to anything and everything, then bloody Billy Moore opens his mouth when Chairman Daniel Dickson is holidaying in Canada. Then Daniel says comments which can be easily misconstrued, we will go where the NRL direct us to go or words to that effect, like wtf.
I rang him when he got back and said we are a laughing stock to everybody, I said commit to an area and stick with that area.
He just doesn’t want to waste time and money, he wants a clear direction from the NRL as the Bears went ahead blindly and did this with the Central Coast Bears bid, wasted lots of money, time and resources, I was heavily involved in this, we signed over 8,000 members and it was all for nothing.
At the moment the Bears are doing everything right, gathering sponsors, gaining very experienced personnel on their board and their off field performances are coming along nicely, even after having the Roosters back away from the Bears with them having their own NSW Cup side hasn’t really effected the Bears at all.
The only thing the Bears need to get right is what goes into the press on slow news days’
Trust me, Bears fans don’t get their hopes up with these articles, we roll our eyes as well.

Brush mark Ella lol

but the rest yeh awesome

used to bump into league players in clubs around Sydney and had good times partying with them

used to love the chief

his clashes with spud were amazing and something the modern day sanitised rugby league wouldn’t allow

terrigal is amazing my uncle had a house there in the 80s that backed right onto the beach
