The difference between Auckland and Wellington is that there are other things to do in Auckland besides watch the Warriors, you have got the Blues,Kings and Breakers plus you can go boating and or swimming

That's a stupid thing to say, Murphdogg1.

Is this the first thread about the Wellington bid?

Look I think we should put the new Australian teams in b4 another NZL team.

Wellington would work... but I just wish that News Ltd would link up with the NZRL and set up a separate comp over there. Then without the Warriors in the NRL we'd be left with 14 teams and could let both the GC and CC in.

imagine a club champions battle between the NRL premiers and NZ premiers, would be interesting. Plus there'd be more footy to watch on Pay tv throughout the year

Nah. I have looked forward to the Warriors last three home games for months.

Seeing greats like Lockyer, and finally getting another shot at the Roosters.

I enjoy watching all the greats, other than Bartercard level hacks.

You wouldn't be watching Bartercard Level "hacks". Also, wouldn't it be good for New Zealanders to have some local derbys? More footy at Carlaw Park (the home of NZRL). Also, test matches would really mean something. A pre-season knockout could take place with the 16 NRL teams and the new NZRL teams.

 Because you are from Wollongong I'll break it to you gently, Carlaw Park is currently a car park

It would take the game in NZ so long to get up to NRL standard.

Besides, if Wellington got into the NRL. There wouldn't be a bigger local Derby than Auckland vs Wellington.

That was a suggestion I had a while ago. An 8 team NZ comp. Then you could have the World Club Challenge between all three teams in January/February.

Yep, wouldn't it be much better for Rugby League in the long term if the Kiwis actually had a comp of their own (instead of latching onto the side us).

Maybe if you guys had a decent comp of your own that wouldn't of happened.

As always, the kiwis cling to australia's coat tails and want us to pull them along.

Thats the biggest pile of bullshit I have read in years. If the Aussie and Brit clubs would stop raping the NZ domestic comp of players a viable domestic comp may have survived. With the amount of youngsters taken out each year there will NEVER a comparable NZ comp. Australian clubs self interest will prevent this.

Perhaps NZ should of set up a decent comp in the first place (and weren't the only country on earth where the "rah rahs" reign).
All it would take is for the NZ Orcas bid team to turn to the Warriors and someone like News Ltd and work with the NZRL to establish a well funded NZ comp. Also, it would rake in heaps of $$$ from Australian Pay tv (even I'd be interested in watching it).

Nice team, Man of Steel.

Go Illawarr-oh yeah.

oh wow. Knock my club. We still exist (but not standing alone in the NRL, though we'll be back - watch this space)

At least we never went bankrupt like the Auckland Warriors.

This is very true but if set up properly with stipulations that NZ players aren't allowed to head to Australia or England to play or even better the NRL and ERL stipulates that no NZer's are eligible top play in our competitions. A well run NZ comp could also see some OZ players head across to play in the NZ comp.

It will benefit the NZ national side in the long run as well I think.

No way!!

Its bad enough having one New Zealand team!

If you really want to have a team in Wellington, then move the Warrors there!!

Memo to the NRL: Expand Auistralia and that means both the Gold Coast and the Central Coast before they even have a think about NZ!!!

Interesting, but I don't think it would be very legal what you are suggesting here....

NZ could never have an internal league competition where players would
be paid as much as they get in the NRL...so any taleneted kiwi would be whinging that this rule is imposing on his earning ability....

Wellington should eventually come in, but not yet.....

The Warriors still need to establishment themselves more in NZ I think....

An internal and insulated League?

Great way to produce international whipping boys, terrible way to create a viable competition. Like it or not, New Zealands Fate is tied to the NRL. We should be treating it as our third biggest state rather than foreign aliens.

Utter nonsense. Last year the Warriors were pulling 18-20,000. With a season of discontent like this, do you blame the fans? The Dogs v Warriors game usually draw 12,000 minimum. If they had their own team they'd get a lot more. The Hurricanes had a shocking Super 12 season but had outstanding crowd support.

Remember, Warriors Development Squad v St George Illawarra Premier League drew a sell out crowd of 22,000 to Hamilton, a union stronghold.
