Souths Duty of Care

Isn't it remarkable that the week after the whinge about penalties this one gets dragged out.

Nobody on LU calls them whiners or drama queens though, or trying to deflect a loss.

Doesn't suit the agenda I suppose

The penalties rubbish has been going on for a decade. No one is blaming a concussed player for losing a game, imagine what he would have done if he wasn't concussed. Player welfare is important and it is ludicrous that the testing is not performed by an independent doctor.

So why make up crap about a shoulder burner. That wouldn't cause a player to stagger about. It's as believable as Souths going to Arizona for HiGH altitude training.

Pretty big accusation there. Any evidence? A link to the chookpen doesn't count.

You've litterally just had a player served with a doping breach notice and you're coming out with stuff like that. Quality stuff.

I'm sure Souths will be able to justify Walker being left on the field.....

Clubs don't have the same duty of care when it is a non head injury because the player is able to make an informed decision. The same rules do not apply. When a player is concussed he cannot think clearly and so his willingness to play on has to be ignored. When a player hurts his hand he knows exactly what the issue is and has every right to keep playing.

It's called peer pressure.

'Stay out there Dylan. We need you out there. You'll mess up our interchange.'
Of course he's going to, regardless of the injury.

If he damaged that hand again, he could end his season. If there is permanent damage, possible end his career.

Then it would be a law suit time.

No there would be no law suit because he could have come off if he wanted to.

And if you have to force a player off for a hand injury where do you draw the line? And fractures are not always easy to diagnose. What if you can't tell between a bad bruise and a bone break? Force him off anyway just to be sure? It's a tough game. Most players carry injuries from time to time. Some we never even hear about.

Unless it's a brain injury there is no issue if a player wants to stay on.

Players need to think hard about their welfare before signing with souffs. The way they treat players will shorten carers.

If you're injured, get off the f**king field. This idiocy of staying on needs to stop.

Let me first say this (as if it isn't obvious :) ) I hate $ouff$.

But I see a bunch of people with no medical training complaining about concussion testing and it just fits in with the internet and journalistic ignorance, depending on where the comments are coming from.

I know more than 1 Dr that is involved with the NRL or other top line professional sports, the last thing they will do is jeopardise their careers by doing something like letting a concussed player back on the field.

There was a case a couple of years ago where a Dr associated with a professional RU side in the UK did something unethical to allow a player back on the field and he was banned from practising.

Every single player has a baseline test done before they start playing, whenever concussion is suspected they are tested and the results are compared against their baselines.

As a level 2 trainer I have seen players appeared concussed, but are not, I have also seen players that don't appear to be concussed by are.

I honestly believe the single biggest benefit of an independent Dr assessing concussion is that it would quieten (not silence) the ignorant whingers.
Which is probably enough to justify it. :)

Injured, geez thats a pretty wide generalisation.
There are very few players in in the NRL that go through the year without starting at least a couple of games without an injury.

NRL Players now days are going to get things like fingers fixed properly so when they get old are not going to have the issues that those in the past did.

 Tim. What a soft hunt.

I tend to side with the doctor that examined Reynolds and gave him the test that the NRL decided on over the noted neurology experts Peter Fitzsimons and on the LU Mensa committee.

Its one thing i agree with BM on.

Would be better to have independent doctors do the test.

Not that i think club doctors would legitmately risk a players health, just that it would remove any chance of that perception being there
