Souths Look To Bring 3 Burgess Boys Over

Bringing them over on an NYC contract is all well and good, but at some stage they'll have to be upgraded and then who's going to be forced out? Will they let go a better player just to keep the Burgess boys together?

As an opposition fan I can't say this worries me in the least. having said that, I'd definately watch just to see the commentators get confused.

you raise a valid point.. whats happens if one or more of the boys simply isn't cutting it. it would be hard to tell them to go elsewhere when sam is such a big part of the side...

as for pushing players out, geddes, stuart, ross will all be retiring within a couple of years, which is the perfect ammount of time for the twins to play a couple of years in NYC and then, hopefully, make the step up! By then sam will be a seasoned NRL player, and a great role model for the boys to have in the side...

in an ideal world

Not fussed about the older one but the twins, especially George, could be every bit as good as Sam. Combine them with the forwards we already have and with some of the star backs to come in from our Toyota Cup team and you have the 2011 Premiers.

So Souths are looking to sign @ NYC prospects and a forward for depth after letting Crossman and Jaiman Lowe go- sounds alright by me- I don't care if they are Poms or Burgess Brothers- if our recruitment manager Mark ughes thinks they are good enough to sign than so be it but as has been pointed out if one or two just aren't cutting it than it could spell trouble. And they will either help or hinder Sam's progress IMO. Help by having some family with him and he won't get homesick and could hinder cause they could be a distraction and say his eldest brother is stuck in NSW Cup and unhappy than Sam might get frustrated as well.

Ever heard of a salary cap? Or reality?

What you need is a reality check. Do you honestly expect 2 teenage twins and a host of first year NRL players to be the catalyst for a premiership? Gives Souths a great foundation for an assault in a couple of years, but if Souths are going to do anything in 2011 it won't be because of that.

All you have to do is look at Canberra. Their 2008 team would've destroyed the Rabbits 2010 team and it still took most of their players a couple of years to really gel and start performing consistently as a team in first grade, and even then it's only been half a season so far.

The Burgess twins who are only 18 and the Toyota Cup kids will be cheap for a couple of years by which time older players like Crocker and Wesser will be gone. We didn't make any big purchases this year so our salary cap situation is obviously ok if they think they can buy the twins AND the older brother and fit them all under the cap.

Did I say by themselves? The Brothers and our juniors won't be joining an empty team. What we already have got us to 9th even after being the most injured team in the league this year.

So 9th place + being reasonably healthy + these prospects = contender.

I'd be locking anyone you want on bigger deals right now if you want to keep them. Especially considering who your closest easterly (hint hint) neighbours are.

Rusty lodged big Sam's contract at the NRL as $150k per season,so they could still sign Cronk and be under the cap.

You suggesting the South Sydney Rabbitohs, aka the pride of the league, would even think of cheating the cap? But, we're battlers, we're the working class team, we'd never do something like that. This isn't Melbourne or Bondi.
