Big Mick, sorry but you saw the incident through your Panther glasses, wasnt anything in it and I am surprised you made these comments , as they are way off.
We are all entitled to our opinion, but yours seems a bit wide of the mark

An update on his injury...

Apr 09 - Craig Gower will remain in hospital overnight so that doctors can carry out more checks on his chest area.

He was admitted to hospital this afternoon after being tackled by Marcus Perenara around 30 minutes into the match against Parramatta. In the dressing room afterwards, while waiting for the ambulance, he was coughing up blood.

First reports suggested Craig may have cracked his sternum.

According to the club doctor, X-rays of Craig's chest area show nothing abnormal.

"However, there are a few more tests they need to do, so he will be kept in overnight."

Let's hope he makes a swift recovery! :)

I think Perenara will be all right. It did look a bit dusty, but I personally don't think the match review committee will refer it.

As for the match... One of THE best Penrith wins I have ever seen. Bay 55 at Parra Stadium was rocking! Everyone found their voice, and it was just an awesome thing to be a part of.

That second half was just... well, magic! I couldn't believe my eyes. That was Penrith at their best. The fact we did it without Gower, and scored 30 unanswered points - words can't describe it.

I thought with Gower off the field, we would stuggle somewhat - but I love being proven wrong in these situations. All the best to him, and hopefully the injury isn't too bad, and he is back on the field as quickly as possible.

Hayne - what a joke. Should never be seen anywhere near a first grade NRL match again.

Justin Hodges would be way ahead of him. Hell, maybe I'm a bit biased but Matt Gidley is infront of Luke Lewis. But If I were to pick two centres it would be Hodges and Gasnier.

Nup....Matt King off the wing and into the centres. He's not really a winger anyway and Bellamy prefers him in the centres.

My Australian centres would be King and Gasnier.

Always interesting to look through a Panthers match thread and watch Big Mick's rollercoaster ride

IMO the tackle was all right.

But to say I was concerned when gower went off would be an understatement and when Parra went to the lead at half time there was definetely a sinking feeling. Yet the way the boys came out and played in the 2nd half...each and every one of them lifted. Bloody brilliant. Congratulations.

As for next week and the weeks that follow without gower, well Peter Wallace is a quality young 5/8 and will do a great job but the likes of wesser, lewis, priddis and campbell will all have to lift just like they did today to support him. His still young and you can't expect him to walk into gowers shoes.

Hmmm Gower goes off with a sternum injury, don't see how that could be classified as a high shot. nice work by the video ref, not...
Looked like Gower fell down drunk, not becuase of a high shot.
As the rest of the game Penrith could simply do as the pleased in the second half, and a gutless, inept Parramatta did nothing to change that.

Brilliant effort by the Panthers, considering their first 7 matches are being played away from home, they are looking really good for the finals, even without Gower. I don't like the guy but don't like to see a player cop an injury like that. He loves to milk a penalty, but is one tough nut, that's for sure.

Nothing in the tackle, a disgrace that it was even a penalty, would have made little difference as McKinnon knocked on the kick anyway. The Panthers probably would have scored anyway..

Parramatta have no heart and will probably only finish ahead of Souths, Canberra and the Warriors. I guess I would throw in the Tigers if Marshall is gone for the year.

He got done for a late hit, not high shot I thought.

Though I didn't think it was that late. But that's going by the replay on the tiny square inch of the screen I could see through the crappy advertising signs. Who the hell thought of putting the advertising in front of the screen so those at the northern end can't see??

Coz we've got nuckleheads for management

Amen to that.

Let's put Ben Ross and Joe Galuvao on the open market, then we'll p*ss off a Premiership winning coach for Matthew Elliot.

Luke Priddis has already expressed his desire to play out his career with Penrith, yet I don't see the powers that be actively trying to get his signature on a contract. - Another f*ck up in the making. Courtesy of Mick Leary and Glenn Matthews!

I think you'll find we fans (at least myself and those around me) had no idea he was coughing up blood. It seemed like an innocuous sort of hit, not really late at all and certainly not with any savage intent, so the home fans (as any set of opposition fans does at a game) gave it to him, told him to "get up ya mug" etc.

Nonetheless,

It's pretty poor form to boo or shout abuse at an injured player on the gound, regardless of what you think of that player as an individual.

The tackle/hit may seem innocent enough, but may have in fact, done some real damage and the player in question could be having genuine medical problems.

I saw the replay of the match last night, and why they were booing was because the Eels were being penalised for what looked like quite a normal tackle (I mean, Perenara was committed to the man, and couldn't pull out). The fact that Gower was being helped off at the time was just pure co-incidence. But having said that at the time, I thought that they were booing Gower for trying to milk a penalty, and therefore thought it was bad sportsmanship.

Apology accepted nickeel. :)

In fairness neither of those players are exactly setting the world on fire at their new clubs, and we are doing alright without them

But I'm still bemused by the lang decisions as well.

Joe was ordinary after 2003.

While our other forwards bulked up Joe got visibly smaller.

He lost all the impact he used to have.

Pantherjim,

Can you honestly tell me this doesn't happen with every other team in the competition?

If an opposition player stays down from what seems an innocuous hit, it seems he is playing for the penalty. Any group of opposition fans in the NRL would give a bit of stick to a player in such a situation, unless it was patently obvious he was hurt.

I think Gower is a fantastic player, so it has nothing to do with what I think of him as an individual. If it is "poor form," as you say it is, to shout abuse at a player who stays down after copping a late hit, then every group of fans in the NRL is guilty.

i was booing him and i'll admit that but only untill he tried to stand up and fell down again(this was when it looked serious before that i thought he was faking it to get a penatly or something for a late tackle). after that i was praising peranara for the hit. i have to say there was nothing malicious in that hit but gower still got an injury and the fact that peranara wasn't charged proves that it wasn't malicious.
