Raiders' $1.7m Chinese sponsorship deal
The Canberra Raiders will announce this morning a two-year sponsorship deal with Chinese technology giant Huawei worth approximately $1.7 million.
The Canberra Times understands the sponsorship deal will include incentives that could extend the partnership to four years and be worth even more towards the back end of the deal.
Having played the first four rounds without a major sponsor, the Raiders are set to don the sponsor on their jerseys for the round five match against the North Queensland Cowboys at Canberra Stadium on Monday night.
The Huawei sponsorship is sure to trigger some controversy, with the technology firm having withdrawn from a sponsorship deal with the ACT Brumbies at the last minute just before Christmas.
Huawei has also been blocked by the Australian Federal Government from tendering for business involved with the National Broadband Network, allegedly following warnings from ASIO.
