CRONULLA have finally landed a major sponsor with the club to this afternoon announce a partnership with Fisherman's Friend.
The Sharks were the only side in the NRL without a major sponsor and have been wearing jerseys without signage on the front of their strips during the first five rounds of 2012 - after the NRL told the club to stay with a clean jersey rather than show support for a charity as they looked for a new major sponsor.
Details of how lucrative the sponsorship will be for the financially vulnerable Sharks will become available this afternoon, but the announcement is certain to be a major boost for the club and comes on the back of three straight wins.
On the eve of the Sharks' local derby with the Dragons at Toyota Stadium tomorrow night - which is expected to go very close to a sell out - chairman Damian Irvine, coach Shane Flanagan and captain Paul Gallen will attend the club's announcement this afternoon at Cronulla Marina.
Irvine said the club was very close to announcing a major sponsor before the start of the NRL season but said they would make the announcement based around the schedule of their new corporate partner.
Former naming rights sponsor Hisense, who now have signage on the back of the Cronulla jumper, also re-signed with the club earlier this year until the end of 2013.
It is a major step forward for the Sharks, but they are still sweating on government approval for a $300 residential and commercial development around their leagues club which is seen as critical to their survival.
