I still cannot believe we're fighting to avoid the spoon, Scumulla suppoters, the media, the WWF, are fist pumping the air so hard, their eyes are popping out of they're heads.
Thanks to the Queensland connection for causing this ( including Griffin), making Ben Sook destabilise St George's season.
I never really cared who came last, but at least the one thing the Red V can do is fight to avoid it, give us something from this horror year!

This state of affairs predates Hook and co. It's been every season post the Bennett era leading up to this. I posted years back that we were becoming irrelevant. We are now a laughing stock and the fact that die hard fans ( like you and I ), even ponder the spoon is a sad indictment on the Club.

FACT!
To Stop the St George Dragons juggernaut of the 50's and 60's, the NSWRL needed to weaken St George and they did this by bringing in the Scumulla Sharks and introduced the 4 tackle rule, they made it happen.
It had an immediate affect in 1967 the scum entered we lost players.
God only knows if they didn't do this, maybe like Novak Djokovic, we could be sitting on 23 Premierships and counting!

Tigers beat Dolphins 24-23. Dolphins bloody gave away a penalty about 2 minutes from full-time enabling Api to just kick the goal after hitting the top of the crossbar. This means Tigers only one win away from being on equal points with us so if we get done by plenty in the last three games, we get the spoon. Although the Tigers do play the Roosters next week and they are wanting a big win to get into the top 8, so we will see.
It was s silly penalty

Our whole establishment deserves the spoon. Bring it on, been well overdue. Powers that be been riding Bennets coat tails for 13 years now. Flanno would be glad if we get the spoon and so would I.

so very true. 12 years of complete mismanagement and constant decline has led to us being spoon contenders. The thing that makes me angry is that blind Freddie could see this coming 5 years ago and the clowns running the club continued to make idiotic and incompetent decisions hand over fist until we find ourselves where we are now.

Some years ago, a guy calling himself Dino, shortly after Dragons started to go in reverse, was crying out for the need for speed. The more the better. In all that time since, there was only one who had plenty, Dufty. Unfortunately he had deficencies in other areas. I have not seen a player with real sprinter ability since. Saab was quick but did not want to play.

The team was on a decline for sure during the Price and Mary years but they fell off a cliff big time with Hook. At least with Mary we had a better roster of current origin players. Hook came in and gutted the place to bring in his buddies from Qld to play a style of footy that was so hard to watch as a supporter. We did have some moments of brilliance sprinkled throughout the year with Mary (not many I might add) but with Hook there was no good moments.

Hopefully 2024 and beyond will make those season a distant memory and we are cheering a team that is challenging for finals at this time of year not planning off season trips to Bali.

Speed is essential in my opinion in many ways of a game. Run speed, passing speed, play the ball speed, defending with speed, etc., but no good having all this speed if execution and attitude is poor and making too many mistakes and such things as ineffective defence.

So, I would say that a team playing as one and basically having speed, fitness, commitment, a good game plan with lots of set plays and being able to defend as the main element, will win more than lose.

Do we have have the players, coaches etc who can deliver these things?

I'm quite enjoying watching the other games without bias.

If we dust up NZ on Friday night, Saturday afternoon can be an enjoyable game to watch.

Can't see Easts losing as they are still in the fight.

We may not win however, as there is still fight in the boys and credit to them to stay in games as it would be easy to forget about this year, the spoon won't come down our way.
