Making lots and lots of money. So far the team that won it has won the Grand-Final the following year, and the runner-up also made the GF.

By the end of last year's Nines it was agreed by coaches and pundits that five forwards, four backs was the way to go.

If making money was the point of our footy players then we'd just have to recruit poker machines.

I can pick eight who would be top 25 certainties. The thing is, at our club (maybe most clubs) the bottom 5-10 players in the top 25 are probably earning about the same as the second tier players, maybe a couple grand more just to distinguish them for salary cap purposes.

Even in our full 38 man NRL squad there's less than 20 you would confidently say are top 25.

Once again this is an effort to make money. The clubs gain money by participating and the further they go the more money they get. The sponsor makes money by people attending along with the money from Foxsports for broadcasting the event and then the broadcaster makes money by selling advertising space.

So that's how the 9's competition came along. If you do not like it you do not have to watch it and no matter how much you and the people who call it a "mickey mouse" competition want it gone and want to undermine the competition, the fact is that there is a market for it and whilst there is a market for it and it's making a profit it will be around. It isn't trying to be Rugby League and I don't think it has any plans to overtake the proper NRL competition.

Was it a broken toe? I thought that is what i read.
There is 4 and a half weeks till start of season.If the moonboot is off i reckon he might make it. Just depends on fitness etc....

I have broken toes a few times. I kept walking.Took atleast 6 weeks before i could run ok

Yeah sort of, turf toe so very similar stuff. Yeah it all depends on fitness but he'll be a few weeks behind where the guys are currently so he'll have to catch up pretty quickly to be ready for round 1. I personally don't think he'll make round 1.

It may. The further you progress in the competition the more money you make which means that you'll be able to spend more money on off-field staff the next season and training facilities which will make your team better, you hope. So there may be something in winning the premiership, but seeing as we've only had 2 Grand finals after 2 9's competitions the sample size is too small for us to definitely say if the 9's has anything to do with winning a premiership or not.
