If you go to
www.newcastleknights.com.au there is stuff on the stadium..... There is no word yet as to when development will start, we still also need the rest of the moeny from John Howard.... which is very unlikely.
And so it should be.
This is a state and/or private financial responsibility.
hrundi99,
You may not be aware of it, but the Hunter Region pays tax too. In fact, the Hunter region has the highest gross product production of any region in Australia. Australia's biggest export is coal, and 70% of it goes through the port of Newcastle, which is the highest tonnage port in the southern Hemisphere.
The Valley is the richest farming area in the country apart from the various irrigation areas, and they cost more to maintain than they produce.
Newcastle produces well over half of NSW electricity, most of the aluminium produced in the country, not to mention huge amounts of light industry etc.
All Canberra produces is large volumes of hot air.
Studies show that Newcastle contributes more to this country in tangible production than any other region.
It is about time we cut Canberra loose to see how long it would take all those fat cats to starve to death when they don't have us to bludge on.
Governments can find lots of dollars to build stadiums that remain largely empty in Canberra, Sydney and Gosford, but can't find anything for Newcastle.
Being the type of person that obviously thinks it is fair to live off the sweat of others, you probably think this is a fair thing as well, but maybe you should consider for a minute that the sport that suffers is RL, because the area with the highest support gets no facilities, while sports such as Union and AFL are getting grand facilities paid for by state and federal money at every turn.
Putting the boot into Newcastle is a fine sport and one everyone seems to really enjoy, so far be it from me to spoil your fun on that, but you are putting the slipper fairly up the clakker of RL as well if the decision is that the biggest RL crowds should attend a stadium built by Sir Robert Askin in the early 60s and now falling down around peoples ears. I suppose we could feel happy in the knowledge that League fans in Canberra get to sit in a lovely stadium built with our tax dollars, unless the Union boys want it that weekend that is.
