Fringe is good. Alias, Cloverfield, Super 8.. not really.

The screenplay was pretty much the worst thing about Armageddon. Pretty much none of it makes sense. It's the disaster scenes that are cool.
Why doesn't the screenplay make sense for Arma? Of course, you have to accept the premise that the goofballs that are selected are, in fact, the best people for the job. Once you accept that premise, the rest takes care of itself... much like most movies that are based on unrealistic premises... which is most movies.

Unless I'm missing something beyond that?

I really enjoyed Cloverfield. Fringe definitely better than Alias or Super 8, will give you that... although there was nothing wrong with Alias at all.

His biggest talent is away from the story/camera as a producer. He knows how to set it up, get the right people, communicate the vision and get people buying into it.
That's probably a very fair statement, actually. I still don't think you could possibly find a better person for the job on this one, though. They chose the right guy.

Joss Whedon might be the only other guy who could even be mentioned in a conversation about who could also do the job... and I feel that Whedon is even more hit and miss than Abrams - although I like a lot of his work, too. I think you could build an argument for him to do it.

I will bet my life savings that Han Solo will die in this film.

Lawrence Kasdan (who I am THRILLED is comning on board as it means this film won't be a total clusterf**k!) has stated many times over the years that during the production for Return Of The Jedi that he felt that "someone had to go". Harrison Ford also suggested that it be Han Solo that was killed but George Lucas said no.

IIRC Lando Calrissian was meant to die when the Millenium Falcon was engullfed in flames escaping the burning Death Star in an early first draft of "jedi".

Han dying wouldnt fit in with the EU story lines if Chewbacca is involved as Chewy dies early on in the Vong invasion and Han doesnt

Lucas film has come out and said that they are not officially cannonising the EU however so who knows

Twenty seconds into this crud should be a reversal of the big bang.

The first Star Wars movie was novelty....the second tiresome and the third boredom.

More movies on....why flog a dead horse??

Pretty much none of the plan makes sense. The size of the asteroid, the size of the bomb, how late they see it, how far they drill down, pretty much all the physics in space, the explosions, the fire. The sound, the gravity...
That said, the intention clearly wasn't for scientific accuracy nor a sensible plot.

JJ Abrams releases first footage from Star Wars 7, introduces a Tatooine alien and makes an offer no fan can refuse

FIRST footage from the set of the new Star Wars movie — AND a chance to appear in it.
Seriously, what more could a Force nerd want? (Actually, don’t answer that).
Filming on the much-anticipated seventh episode in the blockbuster series started in Abu Dhabi five days ago.
Overnight, director JJ Abrams posted a video message in which he gives us a glimpse of the set, a fleeting introduction to a couple of characters and makes an offer that will have the fancore salivating.
“We want to put you in the movie, in Star Wars ,” he says, before being interrupted by an alien.
The creature appears to be a resident of Tatooine, the desert home planet of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.

For hardcore fans concerned at the risk of too many virtual visual effects “spoiling” the movie — and this is a serious issue for some of them following the prequels — the appearance of a physical extra may be reassuring.
Alien invasion over, Abrams then tells how hopefuls can enter in a competition to be flown to London, meet the stellar cast — including SW old hands such as Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford plus new members of the team like Andy Serkis and Daisy Ridley — and win a role alongside them.
The stunt is part of a charity initiative called Star Wars: Force For Change, a project to help children in need with UNICEF.

Looks like they might be turning away from CGI characters...........one can only hope.

None of that regards the plot of the movie? When you accept the pseudo-science of the movie - like most sci-fi/action movies, the plot is perfectly sensible and logical. It's called suspension of disbelief, and it's required to enjoy most Hollywood films. As long as the plot is consistent within the universe that it establishes on screen - and it is - then that is 100% fine. You must not enjoy quite a lot of otherwise fantastic movies on this broken premise. Did you not enjoy Terminator 2 because it's time travel model is scientifically inaccurate? Did you consider it a plot hole?

The problem I think a lot of people have with movies like Armageddon is that fixing those problems wouldn't have made the movie any better or worse. They simply would have made it accurate.

Its like watching any movie where a character is supposed to be an expert in cars and yet literally every technical term that comes out of their mouth is just complete gibberish, or even worse the completely geniused way that movie producers seem to think computer hacking works (it essentially makes nerds into wizards). Just takes you completely out of the movie when it happens.

Time travel model? There's scientifically accurate time travel now is there?

What I am saying is that none of it makes sense. And that I enjoy the movie regardless. What you are saying is none of it makes sense and you have to accept that, then it makes sense.
All I said was the screenplay doesn't make sense, and it doesn't. You're making mountains out of molehills. People have every right to criticise a stupid thing such as fire in space.

Also, NASA show the film to training managers and ask them to spot how many errors it has. Michael Bay thinks it is his worst film.
I said I enjoy it, doesn't mean it's not overall a stupid movie though.

Yep, just punch in random keys on a keyboard and you hack the US Government. Simple.

Really?

I'd probably count Bad Boys 2 or Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen as his worst. They are both easily worse than Armageddon.

They don't.
I' pretty sure that they only held the distribution rights on everything except A New hope and now they have nothing.

It's going to be weird seeing a Star Wars movie and not hear the 20th Century Fox fanfare at the beginning. Anytime I hear that I immediately associate it with SW.
