jj abrams releases first footage from star wars 7, introduces a tatooine alien and makes an offer no fan can refuse

first footage from the set of the new star wars movie ? and a chance to appear in it.
Seriously, what more could a force nerd want? (actually, don?t answer that).
Filming on the much-anticipated seventh episode in the blockbuster series started in abu dhabi five days ago.
Overnight, director jj abrams posted a video message in which he gives us a glimpse of the set, a fleeting introduction to a couple of characters and makes an offer that will have the fancore salivating.
?we want to put you in the movie, in star wars ,? he says, before being interrupted by an alien.
The creature appears to be a resident of tatooine, the desert home planet of darth vader and luke skywalker.

For hardcore fans concerned at the risk of too many virtual visual effects ?spoiling? the movie ? and this is a serious issue for some of them following the prequels ? the appearance of a physical extra may be reassuring.
Alien invasion over, abrams then tells how hopefuls can enter in a competition to be flown to london, meet the stellar cast ? including sw old hands such as mark hamill and harrison ford plus new members of the team like andy serkis and daisy ridley ? and win a role alongside them.
The stunt is part of a charity initiative called star wars: Force for change, a project to help children in need with unicef.

looks like they might be turning away from cgi characters...........one can only hope.

how does one enter this contest!?!?!?!?!??!!

Star Wars Episode VII Is Called 'The Force Awakens'

According to the official Star Wars twitter, J.J. Abrams’ seventh instalment in the massively popular space opera will be called “The Force Awakens.”

Also, notch another one in the “cool” category: The film has also finished principal photography. Of course, the big question is what exactly happened to The Force? Was it gone? Taking a nap? Or is it just a reference to a kind of passing of the torch or maybe the Sith are returning to stir it up? Who knows!
So what do you think of the title? Not quite as iconic as say The Empire Strikes Back but hey, it’s no Phantom Menace either. We can all at least be happy about that.

A title doesn't become iconic overnight. It took a rabid following over years to build up those movies (and their titles) into icons.

I like the title of this new movie.
I hope it fits the movie well.

The first teaser will be showing this Friday in cinemas in the USA so hopefully we will have some bootleg footage to see this weekend.

^ This guy knows.

There have been movies that bombed or were poor received that now are considered iconic movies because of cult followings that grew.

I'd argue that the Force Awakens is a far more intriguing title than the Empire Strike Back if you're able to stop for a moment and detach it from the movie it's aligned with.
