Fair assessment.

Walker is an opportunist. His job was to have quality touches that create tryscoring opportunities. He laid on the try for Jake T but needed to do more when NSW were on the front foot.

Cleary has to run the side. He sat on the right edge and did not impose himself at all. Maloney ran the team last year while Cleary has the L plates on. Cleary didn't step up at all. He did what he always does and it's not enough. He isn't ready to run that team. Everything good comes off Cook and Teddy.

Mitchell had a shocker. Showed no trust in Walker. Showed no urgency in cover. Looks a million bucks when the game runs his way. Looks terrible when not switched on. Lacks mental toughness.

Fittler has some choices to make. I reckon he sacrifices Walker to protect Cleary. Cleary is being looked after by Dad and Freddy. This may not end well.

The halves.
With Keary out it should have been Reynolds and Walker, or Cleary and Maloney.
Hear me out on this one. I'm not talking of team combos, even though that does help.
If Freddy was serious about form players, it's automatically Reynolds/Walker. If he was showing loyalty to Cleary, why not Maloney as well? Yes they have not been good but they did help the side win last year.
The mixture of these two combos, Walker and Cleary was wrong, main reason being, neither of them have won a Premiership. Both Maloney and Reynolds have, also both the Queensland halves, Munster and DCE, have won Premierships.
Maloney and/or Reynolds needed to be there.
Luke Keary was the real missing ingredient. Awesome player with two Premierships to his name.

What we saw last night in no way, shape or form represented State of Origin. They need to change the name to "State of First Football" because that was nothing more than a fast paced NRL game at best.

State of Origin was built on genuine hatred and has been turned into this family friendly light entertainment TV product.

I think the problem defensively was walker, personally. I'd say Keary takes a lot of the thinking out of d for Mitchell and Walker is a bit on the quiet side.
