Gasnier has a habit of making his wingers look bad. e.g Colin Best.

I remember Leon Bott putting on a hat trick because Gasnier let Shawn Berrigan get outside of him with ease with an identical play three time. Gould blaimed Best.

Then in round 1 2006 Gasnier scores a hat trick running over Benji and Gould blows his load. Shame that Paul Whatuira easily scored one against Gasnierin the same match.

I don't think he's terrible as a winger but he was definitely made to look good at Melbourne.
He's solid but he was never talented enough to deserve Origin Jumpers and premiership rings.

Gould has replaced Gasnier with Hayne. At least Hayne can defend.

The first part of your comment may have some truth but the second part may be the stupidest thing ive ever read on here Shorty, and thats saying some-thing.

Any premiership side in history is made up of yeo-man like performers who do a role and do it well.

I'm not a big fan of bagging players but this bloke is one of a kind, he's had 2 premiership rings and NSW origin jersey given to him on a silver platter and has earnt absolutely none of it, he owes his whole career to Craig Bellamy and his storm team mates.

as an individual he'll always be an average first grade winger.

Did you watch the Grand Final? he was one of the best on ground.
Idris isnt much help, Turner is one of the better defending wingers in the comp.
Maybe the Dogs should rush someone up on the inside of Idris to block any cutout attempts. Storm do this with Cronk.

Good: Does his job.
Great: A Match Winner

Turner: Good.
Morris: Great.

Spot on. Morris will be a shining light for his team most game, Turner on the odd occasion.

Turner will turn up, run out of dummy half, score the tries that he's meant to and now and then create one.

Morris will score the tries that he's not meant to and create something from nothing more frequently.

A club needs both of these types of players.

Although people here won't agree Steve Turner = Luke Burt.

Did you miss that try he saved?

Turners a good winger, & is an excellent defender.

Too true. I remember how many times hge used to come off his wing at Melbourne to shut down the attack. Sure there were times like the 2008 GF when he f**ked up completely but he was responsible for saving more tries in his career than he was for letting them in.

Turner doesn't deserve to cop the brunt of the blame, but his combination with Idris needs to be addressed quickly.

Both are capable defenders, but their communication and lack of understanding is a real concern.

Turner is one of the worst wingers to ever recieve a rep jersey, but he is certainly not close to the worst winger in the comp let alone in the history of the game.

Well his price would have come up with the rep jumper and winning premierships with Melbourne, which paints an inaccurate picture.
He's not a gawd awful winger but no stretch but he's nothing special that's for sure.

the LOLSouths thread was removed because it contained spoilers. It was bumped again this weeks and it also contained spoilers before the game was finished.

We have a game day thread for those comments and if you cant contain your comments to that thread during the approximate times of the game they will be deleted for the benefit of those who have not watched a replay.

If you have any queries, feel free to PM me.

Cheers

Turner did not deserve to don the Sky Blue jersey.

But he is OK for club... Not the worst in the history or RL but fair from the top 500..

Any winger that gets a step put on them by a prop and then misses the tackle needs to have a good look at the way they played. With that said, Turner was solid (not flash, but not crap) at Melbourne and I haven't seen anything that says that won't continue at Canterbury.

Last year at Kogarah he also made a break and was heading downfield but got run down by Ben Creagh
It's not in my nature to defent Turner, but the above quotes show a distinct lack of League knowledge, for example:

  • Dane Carlaw from my knowledge used to be the fastest Bronco over 100m
  • Some of the best footwork in League is done by front rowers - aka Shreck and Asotasi
  • I remember John Fearnley matching it pace for pace with Mick Hancock as the latter scored a 70m try once - kept him to the corner and didn't allow him to bring it around.
  • Then there's Scott Sattlers one moment of glory.
  • Then there's the front rowers who also played wing - suck as Mick Vella and old Mick Healey from Norths.
  • Blokes like Hindy regularly keep pace with runaway backs. How about Nate Miles last weekend? I'd reckon Ben Creagh wouldn't be a slouch.
  • And Turner played like a good solid FG winger last night. We should applaud such a vast improvement!

Ben Creagh is rather fast. He was an outside back after all.

Dead right, people often don't realize that forwards especially back rowers are often some of the fastest players.
