The 2009-2011 squad actually had a go though. Smith built a squad full of players that never gave up even if they didn't look good on paper.

That's the thing I loved about Smithy, took no prisoners and systematically pissed off anyone who was only in it for a paycheque. If stone should've learnt anything from his time under Smith it should've been that.

I'm hearing the playing group are really pissed off this has happened. Will be interesting to see how they respond. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a few that want out in the next couple of days. Good, dont let the door hit you on the way out.

They must be pissed off because the age of entitlement has ended and Rick "old boys club" Stone is gone.

Funny that the players are upset that he's lost his job but they weren't man enough to go out there and play for the guy all season.

The perceived nepotism of Matt Gidley might have been a myth afterall. He made the call to Rick and also did it with no influence from little brother. Kurt was pretty annoyed but more at his playing group.

In all fairness Matt Gidley may be the most impressive on the rise CEO in the game. The man has grown immensely this last few years and went from poster boy yes man to a genuine boss. Pretty articulate fella. He gave Stone as much time as he could. First Knights coach to ever be sacked with over a year to go on his deal. Even something that small says a lot.

as much as toovs might be a good coach
I dont know if that will endear the club to the community
he might be seen as a stumbling block for that goal

If the team is winning and playing good football I think that'd be enough yo start bringing the crowds back

Yeah, I don't buy into that crap that they must be a local. First and foremost, the fans want to support a player/coach who is passionate about the club, engages with the community and puts in every week. If you can tick those boxes than I can guarantee that the supporters will soon be on your side.

You only need to look at how a coach like Hasler has been embraced by the Bulldogs. This is a guy who played/coached 461 games for Manly.

As long as we can keep the Sims brothers and this crop of rookies (Mamo, Levi, etc), the rest can f*ck off.

Giving the fans what they wanted is half of what has gotten us into this mess. The fans want success, even if they don't even realise it themselves. We need to stop avoiding shit because it might ruffle the Knights Nannas feathers. What our fans think of our coaching appointment shouldn't factor into discussion anymore - especially because the club always seems to ask the wrong fans (the dumbest they can find, apparently).

I am more confident that Mids will not be remotely interested in a locals first policy. He wants to buy a side that can win games. By some strange occurrence and the pressure from the Knights Rebuild Campaign and media I have the sense of a mini revolution going on at the club. It is almost like the fanbase do not want to win comps. They are happy to compete and leave it at that. Well I say f### that. I want a winner culture and a bit of arrogance to sneak in.

The only thing i want to remain from the old days is the toughness. No more blow outs and no more soft defence

WTF are they pissed off about? For f**ks sake, they've won two games in 3 and a half months. Why aren't they pissed off about that?

The players should be more worried about their own futures, when you've performed the way they have the past few months they should have no sway at all.

You can't do anything but love Bedsy... totally personifies the Newcastle spirit. I'd loved his comment earlier in the week that he'd sweep floors at the club as long as it helped the club - and you know he would at the drop of a hat, too. Champion man. I don't care if we lose the rest of our games by 60, I won't think any less of this man.

The Dragons must be cursing us. This is their biggest game of the year by far to date and they get their favourite whipping boys coming at them with zero to lose and a new coach having just trained like demons and angry ones at that. The same side that traditionally plays them into form.
