First of all, David Riccio is fast losing his credibility with me. What's this, "Plotting Reds Demise" business? Ricky isn't going to be coaching the Warratahs is he? A small thing, but it's frustrating.

So I am a little lost. The overwhelming opinion I thought was that we needed a coach independent from the NRL. At this time, Ricky is just that. Good. All things are going to plan assuming Stuart is appointed coach like most believe he will be. But,

From the linked article said:
However, there remains two key issues to resolve before Stuart puts pen to paper.

The NSWRL has previously stated its desire to appoint a full-time coach for the next three years. Stuart is hoping to seek approval that should an NRL coaching opportunity arise next season he would have permission to put forward his interest.

And it appears Carr is unlikely to stand in Stuart's way.

"The report asks for a full-time coach with a tenure of more than one year, which makes a lot sense. But at the same time we've got to be realistic," Carr said.

"I've always said to Rick that if an opportunity arose to coach one of the top teams and he wants to sit down and take an advantage of that, then it's certainly something we'd consider."

The only other issue to be nutted out is the length of Stuart's contract, with a two-year deal most likely.

I am not one to hold an individual back but let's not do this half assed. For crying out loud Mr Carr, it's pretty simple. If the coach signs a two year deal, he can't take up a deal with a club in either elite competition. His job is two oversee the campaign for a minimum of two seasons whilst being paid handsomely at the same time. Sounds simple, a pretty attractive gig if you ask me. Any job opportunity that comes around will be there once that two year deal ends.

If a prospective coach cannot commit to that e.g. Stuart, let's look at our other options. I believe Ricky is the right man for the job, I don't think he is the only one capable of restoring pride to NSW.

What do NSW Sharks fans think about Stuart as coach?

I was hoping he would end up at the Broncos to ruin their chances for a number of years to come, will be happy enough if he does same to NSW though.

Sticky is the sort of coach that works will with a team at the top of their game. Intense, keeps them fired up. Not the sort of coach I'd want developing a young side, but is perfect for Origin imo

Your saying he is a crap coach who needs a great team playing at the top of their game to be successfull.. Most coaches could do that.

He would be inheriting aside who have lost the last 5 series, are hardly a great team and are rarely at the top of their game.

not quite...I'm saying his strength seems to lie in motivation rather than player development.

lol...it's a rep team. Do you always go out of your way to miss the point?

So what? You don't think the last 5 series is something they will have to over come mentally and will continue to do so until such time they can win one?

Is Stuart good enough for that? His motivation of the Sharks players and their mental state often appeared to be lacking.

The right NSW side is certainly capable of beating Qld. As long as the idiot selectors actually pick the best guys for the job I can see NSW getting over the top of them but if they insist on making such inspired picks like putting specialist centres on the bench or having 10 000 back rowers and only 2 props then they will continue to fail, no matter who is coaching.

Seems like its pretty easy to forget that Ricky was pretty successful at coaching SOO sides too.

The problem is according to your lot there's 20 'right' teams.

There's certainly some truth to that Pete but picking Idris on the bench was a selection no NSW fan would have supported.

Picking the team and sticking to it would have also helped

Yeah don't get me wrong I definitely think the selectors goofed but the idea that it's all the selectors fault is misguided. Blame the players for not putting their hands up earlier.

Also the Idris move wasn't as bad as some of you are making it out to be. He's really a second row/centre so it wasn't as bad as say playing Josh Morris on the bench last year. In saying, I did think the move was a tad premature but at least the selectors were willing to try something a little different.

Pete, the selectors are f**king geniuss, to be blunt. Almost every 'something a little different' they have tried has been woeful. They have either one extreme or the other, they either pick old, past it hacks like Tahu, or young blokes in the wrong position wasting a bench spot.

The selectors are bad...but so are the players.

The idea that there is the 'right' team that should be picked is silly.

Although with that said I think the job is much easier than what it was in 2009-10 with the likes of Carney stepping up.

Agreed, the selectors only mild part to blame. The players that were selected should of stood up. But IMO it has been hard for the players over the past year or two as they have no winning culture. We need a head figure like Sticky as coach, someone who can bring a bit of inspiration to the squad

Look, Im not putting all the blame on the selectors, far from it, but they gave the team every reason to fail and showed little faith in the side they picked initially. Some changes were forced by untimely injuries but some were clearly knee jerk reactions too.

Idris is not a 2nd rower. He doesnt play in the 2nd row for the Dogs nor has he even played there in a FG game so why in gods name did they think he could do it at SOO level. It was a stupid move and if they really wanted him in the side they should have shown some balls and named him in the centres.

A shake up of admin, faith in the side from the selectors and commitment from the players chosen is needed. We have the key players in Hayne, Carney, Farah, Gallen, Bird, TLL and hopefuly Stewart to do the job.

Yes he has and he actually played pretty damn well there.
