For those of us in or around the Sunshine State capital - spread the word about this upcoming event to our backyard. Might also be a good opportunity for a gathering of us International league-minded people !!!

Bit disappointing that a PNG or at least a combined Pacific team is not a participant.

But very good to see Russia will be participating. This surely is confirmation that they still mean business despite losing their major backer.

is this the same competition that was supposed to be held in Russia this year? Or is this something completely different?

This is for University students. The under 16 world cup is still going ahead in Russia.

From memmory the 8 teams are Aus, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, NZ and Russia. The draw is on the main page.

With ikt being in QLD I thought that a couple of PI teams (mainly NZ based players) would have made the trip.

As stated by Ali, an article and the draw are available elsewhere on the site. In regards to the non-participation of a PNG or PI team ( or preferably both) I would have thought that their would definately be a player pool to pick from - especially for a PI team. Regardless, it will be great to see the Russians, Scots and Frogs strut their stuff.

Looking forward to the first two weeks of July.

I like the way we'll be able to rank them 1 to 8 by the end of the tournament. It would be good if the under 16 world cup is in a similar format.

Surely they could put together even a side of Pac Islanders from Australian Uni's. They are here so give them a go!

Hey,
I will be playing in the Student World Cup for Ireland. Many of you guys gonna make any of the matches other than the curtain raisers?
Majorly disappointed that none of our games are going to be at Suncorp :( do any of you have any info on the other places where the matches will be played and if any of them are likely to draw a crowd?

Thanks!

Brisbane will host the World Cup for Student Rugby League in coming months at numerous venues around the city.

Beginning the first weekend of July with an England v France blockbuster at Suncorp Stadium, the tournament will run for a fortnight before the final at Langlands Park on July 16th.

Host nation Australia is in Group A along with New Zealand, Scotland and Wales. Group B consists of England, France, Ireland and Russia.

Selection trials for the Queensland Universities team will be held this Saturday (April 30) at Rockhampton Brothers.

Queensland will then play New South Wales Universities at Carrara Stadium on May 27th as a curtain-raiser to the Bulldogs v North Queensland NRL fixture. An Australian World Cup squad will be chosen that night.

Just as an update, the P.I team has now been included as the Russians have pulled out!

First game is set to be Ireland versus P.I on the 2nd July at Griffith Uni Nathan Campus, not long now!
