No, league isn't shown in Canada on straight cable, which I have. I could pay more to get a dish, or digital cable, and get a channel called Foxsports Canada. But last time I checked, they show about 90% soccer, with little or no league, so it's not worth it. I should check it again, though.

I read here recently about a weekly NRL game coming to US TV, but I haven't heard anything about it, I doubt it'll be on FTA.

When I say free, I mean basic or regular cable, which isn't free. But we get lots of sports just with that, mostly NA sports of course. But I can also see 2 English soccer games on Saturdays, and the 1 union game on Sundays. I'm not sure I could find time for much more TV, but I would like to see league regularly, and I wish it was available.

Steve, I know for sure there will be 1 weekly game on Fox Sports World in the USA. It is replayed on the following Friday after the tapes are sent over from Australia. This is a continuation on from last year, but hopefully this year America (and England) will get a better selection of games.

BTW, I enjoy Murray Mexted as a commentator, he's always good for a laugh. I see Willow has quoted him a couple of times on the Funny Statements by Sports Stas and commentators thread.

Well, the Brumbies made the semi-finals, preventing an all Kiwi sweep of the top 4 places. But they have a lot of injuries. I read that they called a player named Lenny Beckett onto the reserve bench, a former rugby league player. That's all it said. What is his league background?

Thanks, guys. So, how good a league player are we talking about? And how do you'll think he'll go in union if he gets a run this weekend?

Hard to rate Beckett accurately but as he finished with the Northern Eagles who are a pretty dud outfit and obviously didn,t attract any bids from other clubs and was a pretty low-profile signing for the Brumbies so he,s obviously not a world-beater.
Having said all that, some Leaguies adapt to Union better than others so we,ll just have to wait and see.

At the Beckett call, reserve ready to impress
By Melissa Woods
Saturday, May 17, 2003 Former Newcastle and Manly rugby league player Lenny Beckett made his transition to union out of the spotlight that accompanied higher-profile recruits. But that could all change tonight if Beckett gets some game time off the ACT Brumbies' bench in the Super 12 semi-final against the Blues. After four years in the National Rugby League with the Knights and Manly, where he played wing and in the centres, Beckett decided to try his hand at rugby late last year for a new challenge. That risk paid immediate dividends when the 23-year-old was named in the Australian Sevens side, before his surprise call-up this week to the injury-ravaged Brumbies lineup. He joined the ACT second-string side midway through this year, but wasn't in the mix for Super 12 rugby until injuries to backs Stephen Larkham, Matt Giteau and Andrew Walker forced ACT coach David Nucifora to search further afield.<br clear=all> Because of his limited preparation Beckett, although able to play inside centre, is most likely to play on the wing. In case the opportunity comes he has spent his spare time in Auckland furiously studying the Brumbies moves. "Compared to league, the running lines and the defence line is a different language," said Beckett, whose brother Robbie plays league with Penrith. "I've had my folder with me, cramming to try and learn the plays. "These guys have been fantastic in helping me, they've got some of the best players in the world here and even today, I'm still learning things." This story was found at: http://rugbyheaven

I think the term 'Rah Rah' comes from the supposed chants of the spectators.

Reminds me of when myself anda few other members of a Victorian second division club went to the VRU grand final day.

The Melbourne RU Club was playing in the first division grand final.

A lot of their 'fans' seemed to be wearing cordouroy jackets, some with requisite leather patches.

When the Melbourne team scored, their fans were only able to respond with polite clapping and a few Woo Hoo's.

Inebriated as we were we began a rendition of their club song as we understoood it to be...

"Cordouroy... Cordouroy... Cordouroy"

actually typing it is not as funny as when it happened, but Im sure you get the drift

I missed seeing the semifinal. To follow up on Lenny Beckett, does anyone know if he got on the field, and if so how did he play?
