You like what you like.

Music elitism is hilarious to me - I used to like really hardcore, dirty black metal. Now, I can' stand black metal, and I find myself drifting towards melodic death and even metalcore - and my hardcore black metal friends laugh.

But who gives a shit?

Also, regardless of how manufactured and simple her music is, Taylor Swift is actually pretty talented.

lol, there are maybe 3 people that frequent this thread that have any idea wtf you're talking about

Is melodic death cradle of filth? Or is that some other obscure sub genre?

Cradle are fascinating.

They were definitely black early on, but over the last couple of albums have "smoothed" their sound and production and I would now describe them as symphonic/gothic black metal.

But they still have black elements in their lyrics and music - they're just not as pronounced as they were a while ago.

You get me, man!

I like all metal, but I'm finding I don't like black metal much any more.

I dont mind listening to black metal but it's probably my least favourite metal subgenre. Just doesn't seem to hook me.

Melodic death is my current addiction, thrash was my first love

I agree with it all. Just can't get into black metal.

But a good melo-death or thrash band - that's another story.

Menlo-death is an interesting genre. It can have bands focussing primarily on the "melodic" part, like most of the bands listed here, or it can have bands focussing primarily on the "death" part. So in essence you can have two melo-death bands that sound nothing alike.

Also cheesy as f**k power metal. get in me

Melodic death sounds interesting. Shoot me some bands to check out

Couple of my faves:

Soilwork
Amorphis
Be'lakor
Children Of Bodom (their early stuff)
Dark Tranquillity
Scar Symmetry
In Flames (early stuff)
Ghost Brigade
Omnium Gatherum

I like In Flames right up to Come Clarity (one of my favourite albums). The 2 after that suck.

But yeah good choices. I'll add...

Amon Amarth
Dethklok
Carcass - Heartwork
Insomnium
At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
Mors Principium Est
In Mourning

Yeah, I think its the loss identity mainly. I get that, but then I think its also a matter of 'where do you draw your identity from?'

SMBN is a pretty good case study of maintaining identity whilst raising a kid..

It's all about finding a pub that will allow you to bring your rugrat in with you ;-)

2 white hairs right at the front of where I parted my hair today. Do want to cry and/or pull them out.

You can't go past cheesy power metal!

And how could I forget Amon? I am disappointed in myself. Love that band.
