Medication would be really bad for me. Most stabilizers come with a weight gain side effect. I would try them out when i hit a decent weight, but it would have killed me back then if I gained weight.

Its worth trying if you can. I know the highs are brilliant and the lows manageable but the improvement to my friend who has it was remarkable. She's leading an almost different life.

That is quite a read. It is amazing the amount of people that do have "a black dog" Having the stones to put it out there like that is very cool. if it provides the inspiration for one person to recognise their own dog & start to deal with it then it is gold.

It got one of my close mates back in 09 :( Horrible disease.

I think people feel they need to be ashamed. Whenever somebody gives them a chance to share, they leap at it.

Australians, men in particular, are taught from a very young age that their mental health is 'good' and if they feel otherwise they're either gay, not a man or incredibly weak. Its having disastrous consequences.

Not to start a whole argument here Drew but life must be a whole lot easier for people like you who believe in a higher power. Thinking that no matter what theirs still someone running the show.

Settle down you two.

Next thing we know they'll be loving it up on a pottery wheel sculpting screwdrivers and a pancreas.

No argument at all.

Honestly? Its been the entire difference for a few reasons.

One of the major contributors to my growth and 'recovery' if you will call it that was the knowledge that this world, and we in it, were not as we should be. We were cracked by sin and prevented from being the way God designed us. To know that the problem I have is 'solved' by Jesus Christ, and in the resurrection I will be made whole and 'healed' from the issues I have got stopped me from worrying about my worrying (literally) and calmed my anxiety in ways I had previously not experienced.

It also identified to me that every, absolutely everyone, struggles with these same 'cracks' and are as broken as I. I've approached life with a 'tell the truth' approach to those around me who have issues and done so in the knowledge that the truth literally does set you free.

It has also meant I find it much easier to locate the essence of people that is good, and focus in on that and loving that part of them which is the glimmer of who they should be, rather than letting their faults bog me down and prevent me from enjoying their company.

This isn't to say I get along with everyone; I am pessimistic at times (I have a propensity to be a cynic about stuff - I lie to myself and state I'm simply being realistic but lets face it, I'm being a cynic ) and have low periods where anxiety and my flaws get control. But to know that I will be healed in the Kingdom is a big deal. It like taking a shower and washing away the dirt you have accumulated in life.

Hope that's not too much of an overshare.

Man, I wish I still had faith. I believe in a higher power, but can't put any truck in organised religion.

I can't say I subscribe to similar theories but I enjoyed reading your point of view Drew.

I am agnostic. There could be, there couldn't be, Christianity could be right, Scientology could be right, there could be blackness, I don't know. I also don't care. Each to their own, just keep it to yourself is my motto.
