I hate professional sports teams that blindly copy strategies despite not having any where near a good enough roster to pull them off.

I've seen Slater exaggerate a couple times. Should have been a penalty either way, but he adds theatrics to ensure it. It's annoying that refs are normally gutless enough that it has to come to that.

There's a weird trade off when watching old games.

In a lot of ways, the 1990's - Mid 2000s provided far more entertainment, but the quality wasn't really there and a lot of the great moments were on the back of really lax defence.

This is probably somewhat accurate. however i'd argue the definition of 'entertainment'. When people say entertainment I think they tend to mean 'my team winning' or 'flowing attacking football' which as you say, often comes from woeful defence and an overuse of risky plays. People forget how many f**king awful, woeful teams were running around in the late 90s-early 2000s. in 98 there would have been about 6 Parra 2012-2013 quality or worse teams.

I'm a merkin that loved the dragons in 2010. Entertaining f**kers they were. Anyway, Entertainment is subjective.

Old stuff frustrates me. Rather be taken in by sick tries, I get annoyed at how easily that could have been stopped.

TBH, I'd rather watch bad defense than good defense. Seeing guys wrestle for ninety minutes is kind of gay. At least the WWE gives us storylines and T&A when they do it.

As far as I'm aware, only one sport in the world is officially known as football.

There's the Rugby Football League in England? And I definitely used to play juniors in the Parra District Junior Rugby League Football Club comp. They sound fairly official. Look at those capital letters.

On topic though, and in answer to your original question, no, diving is a clear cut case of poor sportsmanship. Which for me takes that desire to win too far, and is a shit merkin tactic, whether it is penalised or not.

I don't recall the sport's governing body ever calling themselves football. They're pretty clearly in their use of things like 'rugby' or 'rugby league'. It's only colloquialism to call rugby league, AFL, or rugby 'football'.

I guess you could make an argument for NFL, but they're American and therefore weird and intentionally antagonistic.

Rugby Football League.. governing body of Rugby League in the UK.

There are lots of different codes of football. I'm sure one day the world game brigade will manage to come to terms with that.

That period you speak of mate was probably a SL hangover of sorts. The game went to shit in so many areas (on/off the field) in that time that it was natural some teams were gonna be ultra shit. Wests and NQ in 1999 and into 2000 (NQ) were utterly atrocious. Im talking make parra 2013 look like premiers woeful. Tbh it's a f**king miracle NQ maintained a team, i reckon anywhere else with a team that was that shit for 10 years would have folded.

God we were shit.

Since when does anyone care about officiality? Football is in the common vernacular to describe the most popular foot based sport region to region. No one cares what an official body says, in NSW, football is league.

I really enjoyed watching the recent Rugby Football League World Cup. It was a stonker!

In this case, I'm referring to the latter where the NSWRL/ARL/NRL whatever you want to call it, was filled with an abundance of ball players and watching these set plays in motion was a thing of beauty.

Of course not every club got to enjoy those perks, but a good number of them did.

The merits of the salary cap is a topic for another discussion, but I definitely think it's made an impact - whether it's for the best is something I've yet to make my mind on.

You can't, on one hand, imply that soccer is a colloquialism and not accept that both Rugby and Rugby League are also, in effect, colloquial terms.

Even the Eels, as an official entity, are the Parramatta District Rugby League Football Club. AFL, as pathetic as it is, is the Australian Football League.

I was saying that calling rugby league/AFL/rugby union 'football' are colloquialisms. Not that association football is called 'football' as a colloquialism.
