Yeah 2000 was awesome, wooden spoon for us, yaaaaay!!..........

I agree, the game was better. TBH, it was at its best in the early-mid 90's til SL came along and f**ked everything. Sure they are bigger and stronger and fitter today but they are athlete first and football player second. Look at the halves talent getting around these days, mitchell pearce and maloney for f**ks sake won a GF. The players need to get out of the gym and protein shakes and onto the paddock and KB's.

Talent scouts need to start looking and developing kids that can play not the biggest kid on the field. The only thing that warms my heart is seeing DCE carve it up, because after JT and him and cronk there's really not many 6/7's worth feeding out there.

I definitely agree that it's athletes and superstars first and football players second. So many precious media darlings with their metrosexual haircuts and media deals. The game's going soft.

He can kick a bit and has some toe. Other than that, meh.

Everyone should be made to watch a manly game with cliffy lyons, canberra with daley/stuart, brisbane with alf/walters, bulldogs with Lamb/pollamounter, norths with taylor, from the 90's to see what I mean. God they were good days.

Watching something on Fox Sports 3 from the 2000 season. Footy in 2000 >>>>>>>>>> footy in 2013. Jerseys still had collars. Johns at his best. Lockyer took an absolute beating, late hits, high hits, elbows, all of it overlooked and he was still best player on the park. These days players will stay down after each one of those hits to get the video ref to give them a penalty.

Players are bigger and fitter now but the footy is nowhere near as good as it was then.

It's because of dopey soft merkins like you who've never set foot on a field except to try and hump a player's leg after the game who chuck a tantrum every time someone gets hurt you thick bastard.

Are you intentionally leaving out Andrew Johns, the footballing superior of all of the above nobodies?

I hate how professional sports teams try so hard to win by learning the most effective defensive strategies.

Tbh Maloney, for me, is better than or the equal of a few of those players. And especially as a 6 if he played outside the quality some of them did he'd be right up there. It's not his fault his 7 is a waste of oxygen who he pretty much has to carry. I just find him an odd one to target given he's a much more 90s style footballer, IMO anyway

And I also don't think it's necessarily true that there aren't a lot of good 6/7s coming through either. I think there's a lot of quality potential around personally

I hate professional sports teams that blindly copy strategies despite not having any where near a good enough roster to pull them off.

There's a weird trade off when watching old games.

In a lot of ways, the 1990's - Mid 2000s provided far more entertainment, but the quality wasn't really there and a lot of the great moments were on the back of really lax defence.
