Humans and Apes both evolved from a common animal that no longer exists... the 'hominid' is where humans evolved from, and, the hominid, is also where the apes evolved from. If you're talking about animals that humans are related to then you might have a case to discuss, however, to be clear, humans did NOT evolve from apes. Apes and humans both, however, evolved from the same animal.
